Fans of a galaxy far, far away can celebrate Star Wars Day Sunday at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures, which is hosting a daylong lineup of themed activities for visitors of all ages.<\/p>\n
The event, titled \u201cA Day of Celebrating the Force,\u201d begins at 11 a.m. and features hands-on workshops, cosplay-themed science activities and meet-and-greets with fan-built droids, including R2-D2 and BB-8.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhether you\u2019re a Padawan, Jedi, or Sith, we have a good feeling about this day full of Star Wars-themed fun at the museum,\u201d officials said.<\/p>\n
Visitors can take part in crafting sessions to create Star Wars-inspired items such as origami characters and puppets, while scientists in costume will lead interactive STEM activities focused on space and environmental conservation.<\/p>\n
\u201cThrough immersive activities perfect for any kind of Jedi, our visiting experts will also stress the importance of environmental conservation in every corner of the universe,\u201d museum officials said.<\/p>\n
Droid meet-and-greet sessions are scheduled throughout the day in the museum\u2019s Sidney Poitier Grand Lobby, with some activities available without a general admission ticket, according to organizers.<\/p>\n
The museum will close at 6 p.m., followed by a 7 p.m. screening of \u201cStar Wars: Episode V \u2014 The Empire Strikes Back\u201d in the David Geffen Theater, featuring an in-person appearance by actor Billy Dee Williams.<\/p>\n
Organizers said activities are available on a first-come, first-served basis, and guests in costume must follow museum guidelines, including restrictions on props and face coverings.<\/p>\n
