SIXERS GET THEIR GAME 7 WIN, ELIMINATING CELTICS<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-2190321\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/New-Gif-2026-05-02T234837.037.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"700\" height=\"700\"\/><\/p>\n<p><strong>2019 East Semis:<\/strong> Kawhi Leonard, four bounces and the first-ever Game 7 buzzer-beater<\/p>\n<p><strong>2021 East Semis: <\/strong>Three home losses as the 1-seed and Atlanta\u2019s first-ever Game 7 road win<\/p>\n<p><strong>2023 East Semis:<\/strong> Jayson Tatum\u2019s 51-point explosion for the all-time Game 7 scoring record<\/p>\n<p><strong>After years<\/strong> of Game 7 disappointments for Philly and its fans, the 76ers finally got their win.<\/p>\n<p><strong>And they did so<\/strong> in historic fashion, becoming just the 14th team in NBA history to come back from a 3-1 deficit to win a best-of-7 series.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Sixers 109, Celtics 100: <\/strong>Joel Embiid (34 pts, 12 reb, 6 ast) led all scorers with his biggest output of the series, Tyrese Maxey (30 pts, 11 reb, 7 ast) delivered 22 2nd-half points, and rookie VJ Edgecombe (23 pts, 6 reb, 5 3s) starred on both ends, as No. 7 Philly clinched Game 7 over No. 2 Boston on the road to advance.<\/p>\n<p><strong>They\u2019ll next take on t<\/strong>he No. 3 Knicks in the Conference Semifinals.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Jaylen Brown\u2019s<\/strong> 33 points led Boston, with 26 more on five 3s from Derrick White. Jayson Tatum (knee stiffness) was ruled out just over two hours prior to tip-off. | <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nba.com\/game\/phi-vs-bos-0042500117?lid=5hqtxtr9v230\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Recap<\/a><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>C\u2019s coach Joe Mazzulla<\/strong> then reshaped his starting lineup, giving Luka Garza, Ron Harper Jr. and Baylor Scheierman their first-career Playoff starts. Only two players in the previous 50 years made their first Playoff starts in a Game 7<\/li>\n<li><strong>Philly\u2019s Best Start:<\/strong> The 76ers responded to the wrinkle with energy, getting out to a double-digit lead, with 10 points from Embiid and 9 from VJ Edgecombe to claim their first opening quarter of the series, 32-19<\/li>\n<li><strong>Back &amp; Forth:<\/strong> Derrick White\u2019s 12-point 2nd quarter brought the C\u2019s back to take a 37-36 lead before Embiid sank 9 more points to restore a 55-50 Philly halftime lead<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-2190320\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/ezgif-1fd6db1f8823a32c.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"700\" height=\"700\"\/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Embiid led the Sixers<\/strong> with 19 1st-half points, matched only by White on the other side. Edgecombe supported Embiid with 12 points, but wanted to impact the game another way.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u201c[VJ] came out <\/strong>of halftime saying: \u2018I got White, and I\u2019m gonna do better on him,\u2019\u201d Sixers coach Nick Nurse shared. White made just one 3-ball after that (3-13 FG).<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Philly Flying:<\/strong> Maxey got going after the break, netting 8 points in the first 5 minutes and 12 overall in the 3rd. Edgecombe added 9 as Philly built its largest lead, 84-66<\/li>\n<li><strong>Pull Out The Stops:<\/strong> That\u2019s when Boston fanned out into a zone defense. The switch-up held the Sixers scoreless from the field for the first 3 minutes of the 4th<\/li>\n<li><strong>Celtics Surge:<\/strong> That was the break Boston needed, starting the 4th with a 16-4 comeback. Jaylen Brown\u2019s and-1 finish with 8 minutes to go made it a 1-point game<\/li>\n<li><strong>Maxey\u2019s Moment:<\/strong> Philly was just 2-for-13 in the 4th with 2 minutes left, until Maxey hit <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/NBA\/status\/2050757168706564360?s=20&amp;lid=awzky71duuc4\" rel=\"nofollow\">back-to-back layups<\/a> for 5 points of breathing room and sealed the game at the line<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>\u201cThe way we\u2019re playing <\/strong>right now, we\u2019re [so] in sync,\u201d Embiid said postgame. \u201cThat\u2019s what I\u2019ve always wanted: Playing winning basketball, sharing the ball\u2026 defensively, everybody being locked in\u2026 that\u2019s how you win.\u201d<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>That locked-in defense<\/strong> found a winning recipe, limiting Boston to 26.5 3P% (13-49) in Game 7. The C\u2019s shot under 30% from 3 and were held at or below 100 points in all four Philly wins<\/li>\n<li><strong>\u201cWhen you go after greatness<\/strong>, you have to accept the other side of that,\u201d Mazzulla said postgame. \u2026 \u201cYou\u2019re gonna fail. We failed by not winning but we stick to the process\u2026\u201d<\/li>\n<li><strong>X-Factor First: <\/strong>Edgecombe is the first-ever rookie with 20+ points, 5+ reb and 5+ 3s in the Game 7. His 23 points are a Sixers\u2019 rookie record for a Game 7, and he joins Tatum as the only 20+ point Game-7 scorers under age 20<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>3. EMBIID\u2019S RETURN, MAXEY\u2019S ATTACK PUSH PHILLY PAST NO. 2 BOSTON<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-2190320\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/ezgif-1fd6db1f8823a32c.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"700\" height=\"700\"\/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Joel Embiid<\/strong> was 0-for-3.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Tyrese Maxey<\/strong> was 0-for-2.<\/p>\n<p><strong>In fact<\/strong>, the 76ers hadn\u2019t won a Game 7 since 2001, when Allen Iverson\u2019s squad did so to reach the Finals.<\/p>\n<p><strong>That all changed<\/strong> Saturday night, on the road, in the home of their rivals, the No. 2 seed to Philly\u2019s 7-seed, coming back from a 3-1 deficit.<\/p>\n<p><strong>With that much <\/strong>working against them, what made this Game 7 climb different for Philly?<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>\u201cWe had a talk<\/strong> after Game 5,\u201d Maxey said. \u201cWe can\u2019t let the same stuff happen over and over and over and over again. At some point, we have to put a stop to it. And we did.\u201d<\/li>\n<li><strong>Power Production: <\/strong>Embiid (34 pts, 12 ast, 6 ast) and Maxey (30 pts, 11 reb, 7 ast) combined for over half of Philly\u2019s Game 7 points, rebounds and assists<\/li>\n<li><strong>Duo Royalty:<\/strong> They join Kobe &amp; Shaq (2002) as the only duos in the last 50 years to each log 30+ points and 10+ rebounds in a Game 7, and stand alone when adding in their 5+ assists each<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>These Sixers<\/strong> achieved the first 3-1 series comeback since the 2020 Denver Nuggets, with Maxey and Embiid leading the turnaround.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Following his appendectomy<\/strong>, Embiid only appeared in the final four games of the series, going 3-1 while averaging 28.7 ppg, 8.7 rpg and 7.3 apg. Maxey had a very similar 28.3 ppg, 7.7 rpg and 5.7 apg in that stretch<\/li>\n<li><strong>\u201cWhat changed in the series<\/strong> is Joel Embiid came back,\u201d Celtics coach Joe Mazzulla said after Game 7<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-2190322\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/New-Gif-2026-05-02T234734.246.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"700\" height=\"700\"\/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Embiid\u2019s return<\/strong> in Game 4, just 17 days removed from surgery, came before \u201cGame 7\u201d was the main motivator, or even a possibility. So what fueled Joel to risk his return?<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>\u201cI\u2019m tired of losing to them,\u201d<\/strong> Embiid said of his long history with the Celtics in the lead-up to Game 7<\/li>\n<li><strong>That Much Sweeter:<\/strong> In addition to the Game 7 demons exorcised, Saturday\u2019s win also marked Philly\u2019s first series win over Boston since 1982<\/li>\n<li><strong>\u201cIt means everything,\u201d<\/strong> Maxey said of Embiid putting his body on the line for his team. \u201cAll we can do is appreciate him, he\u2019s been doing it all year; all his career really.\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>If Embiid helped<\/strong> alter the series in Philly\u2019s favor, Maxey did so inside Game 7 itself.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Ty\u2019s Takes:<\/strong> In Game 7\u2019s final two minutes, as Boston stormed back within a possession, Maxey himself sank as many field goals (2) as the rest of his team did in the quarter<\/li>\n<li><strong>\u201cI just really wanted the ball,\u201d <\/strong>Tyrese said. \u201cI knew I would need to step up and make plays down the stretch for us to win the game.\u201d<\/li>\n<li><strong>\u201cWhat he\u2019s been doing: All-NBA,\u201d <\/strong>Embiid said of Maxey\u2019s play<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>The winning duo<\/strong> will now take on a comparable counterpart in Jalen Brunson and Karl-Anthony Towns, as the East Semis start in New York Monday at 8 ET (NBC &amp; Peacock).<\/p>\n<p>4. GAME 7 IN DETROIT: HISTORIC COMEBACK OR HISTORIC UPSET?<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-2190501\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/ORL-DET-720.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"576\" height=\"720\"  \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Thirty. Four. Years.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>That\u2019s how many years<\/strong>, combined, it\u2019s been since the Pistons or Magic have advanced beyond the First Round.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Sixteen for Orlando<\/strong>. Eighteen for Detroit.<\/p>\n<p><strong>One of those droughts<\/strong> ends today, in a series that\u2019s already over-delivered on history, and drama.<\/p>\n<p><strong>After the top-seeded Pistons<\/strong> became the 38th team to force a Game 7 after falling behind 3-1, Cade Cunningham and Jalen Duren look to punch Detroit\u2019s first second-round ticket since 2008 \u2013 while Paolo Banchero, Desmond Bane and Orlando are out to be just the 7th 8-seed to move on.<\/p>\n<p><strong>To do that<\/strong>, Orlando will need to shake off a 2nd-half struggle that would haunt any team: Outscored 55-19 to erase a 24-point lead, 23 consecutive missed shots over nearly 14 minutes of game play, and 1-for-20 shooting (5% FG) in the 4th quarter.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u201cYou gotta wash it,\u201d <\/strong>coach Jamahl Mosley said. \u201cYou gotta learn from it. You gotta go get Game 7, and you gotta do it the hard way.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>That ability<\/strong> to move on and overcome adversity is a trait both of these teams share, and a required skill in a series like this one.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Not Done Yet:<\/strong> Top-seeded Detroit is still standing after facing down elimination in two straight games. The team would be just the 15th, after Philly last night, to move on after going down 3-1<\/li>\n<li><strong>Play-In Primer:<\/strong> The Magic took on two extra games just to get to Detroit after finishing 8th and falling to Philly in their Play-In opener. They then had to tame one of the season\u2019s hottest teams in Charlotte<\/li>\n<li><strong>Health Hindrance: <\/strong>Orlando fought through another injury-plagued season, with Franz Wagner (ankle, calf) missing 48 games, along with the final 3 of this series, and 25 absences for Jalen Suggs (various)<\/li>\n<li><strong>Without Cade: <\/strong>The Pistons faced one of their toughest challenges of the season navigating the stretch run without their All-Star engine Cunningham, who missed 11 games with a collapsed lung. Detroit rallied to go 8-3 in that stretch<\/li>\n<li><strong>Been There Before:<\/strong> Orlando\u2019s second half drought \u2014 and a bounceback from it \u2014 has a little precedent this year: on Mar. 29, the Raptors scored 31 straight against the Magic<\/li>\n<li><strong>After that?<\/strong> Orlando won six of its next seven games<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Resiliency like this <\/strong>for Orlando and Detroit isn\u2019t contained to just this season.<\/p>\n<p><strong>These Game 7 foes,<\/strong> meeting today at 3:30 ET (ABC) for a chance to add a brand-new chapter to their franchise\u2019s history, both found themselves at the very bottom of the East four years ago.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Hard Times:<\/strong> Detroit, featuring a rookie Cunningham, finished 2021-22 just 23 wins, 14th in the East ahead of only Orlando (22 wins), who would go on to draft Banchero 1st overall that summer<\/li>\n<li><strong>Difference Makers: <\/strong>Now the Magic have had made three consecutive Playoff appearances for the first time since 2012, and after becoming the first team to triple its win total year-over-year last season, Detroit upped again to 60 wins<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Today<\/strong>, Cunningham, Banchero and their teams have a chance to take a major next step.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Another All-Out Duel? <\/strong>While Game 6 featured wild swings, Game 5\u2019s twin 45-point scoring showdown saw Cade set a new Pistons Playoff high, and Paolo come within a bucket of Orlando\u2019s<\/li>\n<li><strong>Block Party: <\/strong>The Pistons\u2019 60 blocks through six games are the most in any six-game Playoff stretch since 1994<\/li>\n<li><strong>No Repeats:<\/strong> Orlando last played a Game 7 two seasons ago in the First Round, against another explosive scorer, as Donovan Mitchell (39 pts) outdueled Paolo (38 pts) in the largest Game 7 comeback (18 points) of the play-by-play era<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>5. GAME 7 IN THE LAND: LOCAL HERO VS. ALL-TIME CLOSER<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-2190497\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/TOR-CLE-720.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"576\" height=\"720\"  \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Those 1.7 seconds<\/strong> were a lifetime in the making.<\/p>\n<p><strong>When RJ Barrett\u2019s<\/strong> time-stopping OT jumper fell in \u2013 after hanging in the air for nearly two seconds, following a bounce off the back of the rim \u2013 it didn\u2019t just help the Raptors avoid elimination in Game 6.<\/p>\n<p><strong>It made for <\/strong>a new instant-classic moment for the franchise, delivered by someone who\u2019d dreamed of it growing up just a few miles down the road.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u201cJust happy to be able to be in this moment,<\/strong> playing for my hometown team,\u201d Barrett said. \u201cThat\u2019s amazing.
