The National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC) union is back for its annual food drive \u2014\u00a0and its members are aiming high.<\/p>\n

On Saturday, May 9, the NALC will partner with the San Antonio Food Bank and CPS Energy for the union\u2019s 34th Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive with the goal of collecting 500,000 pounds of food in a single day, according to its local officials. \u00a0<\/p>\n

The organizations want the drive to set the record for the largest amount of food collected in one day in San Antonio.<\/p>\n

Through drive, San Antonio residents will be able place nonperishable food items in marked bags distributed to their homes by mail carriers in advance of the big day. Those who can are asked to donate a pound or more of nonperishable food in the bags, which the carriers will collect along their usual routes.<\/p>\n

For those who would rather contribute financially, the organizations also are collecting virtual donations<\/a>, officials said. Every dollar amounts to 10 pounds of food.<\/p>\n
