{"id":771001,"date":"2026-05-03T19:18:32","date_gmt":"2026-05-03T19:18:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/771001\/"},"modified":"2026-05-03T19:18:32","modified_gmt":"2026-05-03T19:18:32","slug":"la-marque-man-dies-after-medical-emergency-at-galveston-county-jail-officials-say","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/771001\/","title":{"rendered":"La Marque man dies after medical emergency at Galveston County Jail, officials say"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\"><strong>GALVESTON COUNTY, Texas<\/strong> \u2013 A man taken into custody in La Marque early Sunday morning died a short time later after he became critically ill at the Galveston County Jail, according to the Galveston County Sheriff\u2019s Office.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Sheriff\u2019s office officials said\u00a0Jarrod Holt, 51, was arrested by the\u00a0La Marque Police Department\u00a0at\u00a04:49 a.m. this morning\u00a0on a\u00a0felony parole board warrant.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Police then transported Holt to the\u00a0Galveston County Jail, arriving at about\u00a05:39 a.m., the sheriff\u2019s office said. After he arrived, Holt was seen by\u00a0UTMB medical staff\u00a0as part of an intake evaluation.<\/p>\n<ul class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 kDvXdO font_openSans articleList\">\n<li class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__StackBase-sc-1fnzlkn-7 ecGWWE iQviKm\"\/><\/ul>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">During that assessment, Holt told medical personnel he had\u00a0ingested cocaine, according to the sheriff\u2019s office.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Not long after, Holt\u2019s condition worsened quickly. Officials said he began\u00a0vomiting\u00a0and\u00a0sweating heavily. UTMB staff started emergency care, including\u00a0CPR, and Holt was taken to\u00a0UTMB Galveston, where he was\u00a0pronounced dead at 6:44 a.m., the sheriff\u2019s office said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">As required under\u00a0Texas Jail Standards, the sheriff\u2019s office said it notified the\u00a0Texas Rangers\u00a0and the\u00a0Galveston County District Attorney\u2019s Office, which are conducting an independent review.
