Bye, bye, Redeye.<\/p>\n
Fireman Hospitality Group\u2019s Redeye Grill, a Manhattan dining institution since 1995,\u00a0will serve its last cowboy ribeye steak and shellfish tower on July 12, Realty Check has learned.<\/p>\n
CEO Ben Grossman, who\u2019s run the 11-location eatery\u00a0empire since founder Shelly Fireman passed away at 93 last October, said, \u201cAfter 30 unforgettable years, we made the difficult decision to close Redeye. We are very grateful for our time here.\u201d<\/p>\n

The American brasserie at 890 Seventh Ave. between West 56th and 57th streets was a favorite of audiences at Carnegie Hall across the street. Grossman said business\u00a0largely rebounded after the pandemic, but, \u201cOur lease was up and although we and [landlord] Vornado talked in good faith, we couldn\u2019t mutually agree on new terms.\u201d<\/p>\n
A source said the 2020 lockdown and\u00a0slower business that followed impacted Redeye more than the other Fireman places.\u00a0 A Vornado rep declined to comment.<\/p>\n
What Fireman\u00a0branded as the \u201cHome of the Famous Dancing Shrimp\u201d was the scene of his\u00a0well-attended memorial last year which drew Jerry Seinfeld, NYC Hospitality Alliance executive director\u00a0Andrew Rigie and Vornado\u00a0chairman Steven Roth.<\/p>\n
Grossman emphasized that his other restaurants \u2014 from three-year-old Paris Bar on West 57th Street to nearly 40-year-old Trattoria dell\u2019 Arte next door to Redeye \u2014 were all doing fine.<\/p>\n
In a week that saw a rare, giant mouthful of Manhattan restaurant news, we also learned that widely praised West 10th Street Italian spot L\u2019Artusi is expanding uptown.<\/p>\n
L\u2019Artusi will open a new location at 1271 Sixth Ave. next year. Google Maps<\/p>\n
It will open next year at Rockefeller Group\u2019s 1271 Sixth Ave., which is\u00a0home to one of Midtown\u2019s most impressive group of restaurants \u2014 Avra Estiatorio, Cuerno and The Capital Grille. L\u2019Artusi will have 6,000 square feet\u00a0in the former home of\u00a0Ted\u2019s Montana Grill, the\u00a0steakhouse that quietly closed last month. It was founded by media mogul Ted Turner\u00a0whose name was on the lease 20 years ago.<\/p>\n
The Sixth Avenue corridor is on fire with\u00a0full office towers, crowded sidewalks\u00a0and a growing restaurant collection. L\u2019Artusi\u00a0managing partner Kevin Garry called the decision to expand there \u201ca response to years of interest in the concept from the Manhattan community.\u201d<\/p>\n
CBRE\u2019s Jordan Kaplan represented L\u2019Artusi while CBRE\u2019s Eric Gelber and Rock Group\u2019s Marisa Gadlin acted for the landlord.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, East Side favorite Seafire Grill will move from its home of 14 years at 158 E. 48th St. to a larger location\u00a0nearby at 216 E.\u00a049th Street this fall. It will have a whopping 456 seats in 12,000 square feet in a striking new design on three floors. The venue will boast eight private dining rooms and a dining garden.<\/p>\n
Popular and plush Seafire offers steak and pasta in addition to its extensive seafood menu. The building that will be its new home happens to be\u00a0owned by Benjamin Sinanaj and Benjamin Prelvukaj, the \u201ctwo Benjamins\u201d who are also the owners of Seafire Grill and Benjamin\u2019s steakhouses in Manhattan and Westchester.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Bye, bye, Redeye.
