But negotiations with Liverpool proved to be difficult.

The Reds had already rebuffed two attempts from Bayern Munich and had a much higher valuation for Diaz than Barcelona could ever afford.

As a result, the club have decided to go after Rashford, who is expected to fly to the city in the coming hours and immediately join Hansi Flick’s training setup.

Barcelona were willing to pay €60 million

According to Fabrizio Romano, Barcelona tried to make a move for Luis Diaz until the last minute, even informing the player of their desire to pay €60 million.

However, the offered sum was not nearly enough to woo Liverpool, which is why the deal couldn’t go through.

Barcelona were willing to pay €60 million for Luis Diaz this summer (Photo by Marcelo Endelli/Getty Images)

Just to put things into perspective, Liverpool had already rejected a €67 million bid from Bayern Munich for the services of Diaz.

The Bavarians are reportedly weighing up an improved bid for the player. But as for Barcelona, anything more than €60 million was not possible.

As such, the Catalans decided to let go of Diaz and bring in Rashford. The Man United attacker may not have been the club’s first choice, but he does bring immense experience and versatility to the table.

As for Diaz, it will be interesting to see if the Colombian’s move to Bayern Munich goes through. A lot may depend on Liverpool’s pursuit of a new attacker, with the club reportedly interested in the services of Real Madrid sensation Rodrygo.

With Barcelona on the verge of securing a deal for Marcus Rashford, it appears the club have given…

[45
1386,4444,5727,215,24990,3901,221,62,67,132,68
0":"post-77163","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-soccer","8":"tag-barcelona","9":"tag-barcelona-news","10":"tag-fc-barcelona","11":"tag-liverpool","12":"tag-luis-diaz","13":"tag-marcus-rashford","14":"tag-soccer","15":"tag-sports","16":"tag-united-states","17":"tag-unitedstates","18":"tag-us
["GET
