{"id":772956,"date":"2026-05-04T16:33:15","date_gmt":"2026-05-04T16:33:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/772956\/"},"modified":"2026-05-04T16:33:15","modified_gmt":"2026-05-04T16:33:15","slug":"hazen-fire-in-buckeye-still-burning-with-no-containment","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/772956\/","title":{"rendered":"Hazen Fire in Buckeye still burning with no containment"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>PHOENIX \u2013 Firefighters are still working to suppress the Hazen Fire, which remained active overnight in Buckeye, officials said Monday morning.<\/p>\n<p>The West Valley wildfire ignited on Saturday afternoon and was last measured at 980 acres with no containment.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re trying to get a flight this morning to see if we can get a better acreage update,\u201d Tiffany Davila of the Arizona Department of Forestry and Fire Management told KTAR News 92.3 FM.<\/p>\n<p>The Hazen Fire started near <a href=\"https:\/\/maps.app.goo.gl\/ZKd4XzMLjYozP8Tf6\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Hazen and Rooks roads<\/a>, east of State Route 85, just before 4 p.m. on Saturday. The cause has not yet been determined.<\/p>\n<p>Crews conducted successful burnout operations along SR 85 on Sunday. It\u2019s really burning in that dense salt cedar within that river bottom. It\u2019s being fueled by the dry conditions along with the wind.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>No evacuation orders had been issued as of Monday morning.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHowever, if we needed to put a \u2018SET,\u2019 which is a pre-evacuation, or an evacuation, which is \u2018GO,\u2019 into place, we would work closely with the Maricopa County Sheriff\u2019s Office to implement that,\u201d Davila said.<\/p>\n<p>Maricopa County residents can sign up for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.maricopa.gov\/1755\/Emergency-Notifications\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">emergency notifications here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>A temporary flight restriction has been activated in the area for all aircrafts that aren\u2019t part of the firefighting operations, including drones.<\/p>\n<p>Drivers could see Hazen Fire smoke from I-10<\/p>\n<p>The fire has been moving away from SR 85, which was closed for several hours on Saturday, Davila said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHowever, drivers south of the (Interstate) 10 coming into Buckeye should just be mindful just in case if the wind shifts and the \u2026 wind starts pushing the smoke over the highway,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>Officials closed some local roads on Sunday to keep them clear for the firefighting efforts.<\/p>\n<p>RELATED STORIES<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat was really just due to a lot of people pulled off wanting to take look at what was going on, and they were impeding traffic, and they were impeding the way of our engines and our resources trying to get to the incident,\u201d Davila said.<\/p>\n<p>The public was <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/azstateforestry\/status\/2050951069484937284\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">advised<\/a> by the Arizona Department of Forestry and Fire Management that they will see smoke throughout Sunday as vegetation continues to burn.<\/p>\n<p>Arizona Public Service de-energized power lines in the area as a safety measure.
