{"id":774311,"date":"2026-05-05T06:34:20","date_gmt":"2026-05-05T06:34:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/774311\/"},"modified":"2026-05-05T06:34:20","modified_gmt":"2026-05-05T06:34:20","slug":"stock-market-today-live-updates-205","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/774311\/","title":{"rendered":"Stock market today: Live updates"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A trading floor manager works on the floor of the American Stock Exchange (AMEX) at the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) in New York, US, on Monday, May 4, 2026. <\/p>\n<p>Michael Nagle | Bloomberg | Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>U.S. stock futures were higher early Tuesday after the major averages suffered declines amid growing concerns that conflict in the Middle East could escalate once more.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/@SP.1\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">S&amp;P 500 futures<\/a> traded 0.18% higher, while <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/@ND.1\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Nasdaq 100 futures<\/a> gained 0.27%. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/@DJ.1\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Futures tied to the Dow Jones Industrial Average<\/a> added 75 points, or 0.15%.<\/p>\n<p>Stocks fell across the board on Monday, with the blue-chip <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/.DJI\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Dow<\/a> falling 557.37 points, or 1.13%. The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/.SPX\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">S&amp;P 500<\/a> lost 0.41%, while the tech-heavy <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/.IXIC\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Nasdaq Composite<\/a> slipped 0.19%.<\/p>\n<p>The losses came after the United Arab Emirates said on Monday that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2026\/05\/04\/iran-war-uae-trump-ceasefire-missiles.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Iran launched drones and missiles against it<\/a>, putting an already fragile ceasefire between the U.S. and Iran on even shakier ground.<\/p>\n<p>The U.S. reportedly said that it had sunk Iranian boats in the Strait of Hormuz. Admiral Brad Cooper, who leads U.S. Central Command, said on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.centcom.mil\/MEDIA\/Transcripts\/Article\/4477143\/adm-brad-cooper-centcom-commander-conducts-a-media-conference-call\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Monday afternoon<\/a> that American forces had eliminated six small Iranian boats that were attempting to interfere with commercial shipping, Reuters reported. However, Iranian state media denied that the boats had been sunk.<\/p>\n<p>Oil prices rose in Monday&#8217;s regular session. In extended trading, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/@CL.1\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">U.S. West Texas Intermediate crude futures<\/a> fell 1%.<\/p>\n<p>Despite this ramp up in Middle East tensions and Monday&#8217;s losses, Morgan Stanley Wealth Management&#8217;s Dan Skelly still sees reason to stay optimistic.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;You&#8217;ve seen this pattern before where \u2014 last year in April, with Liberation Day \u2014 big sell-off, big recovery. Now with the war in the Middle East, it&#8217;s almost like the market is treating geopolitics and some of these domestic policy shocks like pop-up ads along a longer, winding narrative centered on AI, the economy and resilient earnings,&#8221; the firm&#8217;s head of market research and strategy said on CNBC&#8217;s &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/closing-bell-overtime\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Closing Bell: Overtime<\/a>&#8221; on Monday afternoon. He added that companies have been posting strong earnings reports thus far.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/PFE\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Pfizer<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/DD\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">DuPont<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/PYPL\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">PayPal<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/HSBC\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">HSBC<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/BUD\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Anheuser-Busch InBev<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/MPC\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Marathon Petroleum<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/DUK\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Duke Energy<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/SHOP\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Shopify<\/a> are among the companies reporting earnings before Tuesday&#8217;s opening bell.
