{"id":775546,"date":"2026-05-05T19:10:22","date_gmt":"2026-05-05T19:10:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/775546\/"},"modified":"2026-05-05T19:10:22","modified_gmt":"2026-05-05T19:10:22","slug":"durham-museum-welcomes-new-black-bear-cub-wral-com","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/775546\/","title":{"rendered":"Durham museum welcomes new black bear cub :: WRAL.com"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.lifeandscience.org\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">The Museum of Life<br \/>\nand Science<\/a> in Durham is welcoming a new, 1-year-old black bear cub to its<br \/>\nExplore the Wild: Black Bears habitat. <\/p>\n<p>The 115-pound male cub joins the museum\u2019s two adult black bears,<br \/>\nLittle (5) and Murray (3). <\/p>\n<p>The cub was found in Montana, abandoned and near death back in December 2025.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Montana Wildlife officials were able to rescue the cub and<br \/>\nthrough the \u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.aza.org\/?utm_source=Wide+PR+list&amp;utm_campaign=5dc4cfbe85-050526-museum-news-release-black-bear-arrival&amp;utm_medium=email&amp;utm_term=0_-b2c777780c-120959822&amp;ct=t(050526-museum-news-release-black-bear-arrival)\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Association<br \/>\nof Zoos and Aquariums<\/a>, find the cub his new home at The Museum of Life and Science in Durham.\n<\/p>\n<p>\nThrough the <a href=\"https:\/\/fedexcares.com\/delivering-good?utm_source=Wide+PR+list&amp;utm_campaign=5dc4cfbe85-050526-museum-news-release-black-bear-arrival&amp;utm_medium=email&amp;utm_term=0_-b2c777780c-120959822&amp;ct=t(050526-museum-news-release-black-bear-arrival)\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">FedEx<br \/>\nCares Delivering Good initiative<\/a>, the cub and a veterinarian were able to<br \/>\nmake the trip from Montana to Durham safely.\n<\/p>\n<p>\nAnd to honor the cub\u2019s native habitat and the wildlife officials that saved his<br \/>\nlife, the cub\u2019s animal care team at the museum decided to name him Montana.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are so appreciative of our partners at Montana Fish,<br \/>\nWildlife, and Parks, AZA, and FedEx,\u201d Senior Director of Animal Care Sherry<br \/>\nSamuels said. \u201cThe care and speed in which so many came together to make sure<br \/>\nthis cub was cared for is a testament to the amazing things that happen when<br \/>\npeople come together for a common good.\u201d\n<\/p>\n<p>\nMontana finished his time in quarantine and has been introduced to his new<br \/>\nsurroundings. The cub is still getting<br \/>\nadjusted, but visitors could get a glimpse of him this spring and summer as he<br \/>\nsettles into his new home.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\u201cWe\u2019re excited to provide a home for another black bear cub,\u201d Samuels said.<br \/>\n\u201cMontana is the third cub in the last five years that needed a forever home;<br \/>\nthe Museum is honored to provide a space for this animal to have the best<br \/>\nquality of life.\u201d\n<\/p>\n<p>Visitors to the museum can see the black bears and all the other animals and exhibits<br \/>\nduring regular operating hours, Tuesday to Sunday from 10 am until 5 pm (9 am<br \/>\nfor Members).
