The Museum of Life
\nand Science<\/a> in Durham is welcoming a new, 1-year-old black bear cub to its
\nExplore the Wild: Black Bears habitat. <\/p>\n

The 115-pound male cub joins the museum\u2019s two adult black bears,
\nLittle (5) and Murray (3). <\/p>\n

The cub was found in Montana, abandoned and near death back in December 2025.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Montana Wildlife officials were able to rescue the cub and
\nthrough the \u00a0Association
\nof Zoos and Aquariums<\/a>, find the cub his new home at The Museum of Life and Science in Durham.\n<\/p>\n

\nThrough the FedEx
\nCares Delivering Good initiative<\/a>, the cub and a veterinarian were able to
\nmake the trip from Montana to Durham safely.\n<\/p>\n

\nAnd to honor the cub\u2019s native habitat and the wildlife officials that saved his
\nlife, the cub\u2019s animal care team at the museum decided to name him Montana.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are so appreciative of our partners at Montana Fish,
\nWildlife, and Parks, AZA, and FedEx,\u201d Senior Director of Animal Care Sherry
\nSamuels said. \u201cThe care and speed in which so many came together to make sure
\nthis cub was cared for is a testament to the amazing things that happen when
\npeople come together for a common good.\u201d\n<\/p>\n

\nMontana finished his time in quarantine and has been introduced to his new
\nsurroundings. The cub is still getting
\nadjusted, but visitors could get a glimpse of him this spring and summer as he
\nsettles into his new home.\n<\/p>\n

\n\u201cWe\u2019re excited to provide a home for another black bear cub,\u201d Samuels said.
\n\u201cMontana is the third cub in the last five years that needed a forever home;
\nthe Museum is honored to provide a space for this animal to have the best
\nquality of life.\u201d\n<\/p>\n

Visitors to the museum can see the black bears and all the other animals and exhibits
\nduring regular operating hours, Tuesday to Sunday from 10 am until 5 pm (9 am
\nfor Members).
