JACKSONVILLE, N.C. (WITN) – An all-inclusive youth baseball field is set to open in an Eastern Carolina city by the end of this year.<\/p>\n
Jacksonville has announced that construction on the \u201cInspiration Field\u201d will begin on Friday and is expected to be completed by the end of 2026.<\/p>\n
The new field will be at the former skatepark within the Commons Recreation Complex and feature a rubber surface, so that children of all abilities can participate.<\/p>\n
The city will also build a shelter pavilion and new walking trails to expand amenities for visitors.<\/p>\n
The project will total $1.2 million, with a $500,000 grant from the Parks and Recreation Trust Fund and other city funds.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis project represents our commitment to creating spaces where every child has the opportunity to play, connect, and thrive,\u201d said Susan Baptist, Director of Recreation. \u201cWe are excited to provide a facility that truly reflects the spirit of inclusion and community.\u201d<\/p>\n
