HOUSTON<\/strong> \u2013 Four people are dead following what investigators describe as an apparent murder-suicide at a home in River Oaks.<\/p>\n

Police say a 52-year-old man is believed to have shot and killed his 39-year-old wife and their two children \u2014 an 8-year-old girl and a 4-year-old boy \u2014 before taking his own life.<\/p>\n

Officers discovered the family inside the home. Authorities have not released a possible motive as the investigation continues.<\/p>\n

Property records link the couple to Traveler\u2019s Table in Montrose. A worker at the restaurant confirmed to KPRC 2 that the couple was connected to the business, but a manager declined to comment and asked a reporter to leave.<\/p>\n

The restaurant\u2019s menu is inspired by dishes from around the world, reflecting the couple\u2019s travels.<\/p>\n

For customers, the news has been difficult to process.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s shocking, absolutely shocking. It\u2019s tragic \u2014 it really, really is just tragic and shouldn\u2019t happen,\u201d said Christopher Dean, a patron at the restaurant.<\/p>\n

Eric Sandler, editor of CultureMap Houston, said he had known the couple since the restaurant opened.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve been with them to celebrate all kinds of occasions and seen them expand into a second concept,\u201d Sandler said.<\/p>\n

He described the couple as deeply involved in both their business and their staff.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey loved celebrating with people, creating memories, and nurturing their staff \u2014 promoting from within,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Sandler also pointed to the broader challenges facing restaurant owners.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s the economic reality \u2014 rising costs for labor and goods, insurance, rent,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

He emphasized there is no indication those pressures played a role in this case.<\/p>\n

\u201cI can\u2019t predict the future. I don\u2019t know if these restaurants will stay open, but for now they are, and they have employees who need our support,\u201d Sandler said.<\/p>\n

The couple also owned another concept, Traveler\u2019s Cart. The investigation remains ongoing.<\/p>\n
