\n\tDavid Letterman<\/a> isn\u2019t biting his tongue, calling the owners of CBS<\/a> \u201clying weasels\u201d after they canceled The Late Show With Stephen Colbert<\/a><\/a> due to financial reasons. <\/p>\n

\n\tThe former Late Show\u00a0host recently sat down with The New York Times<\/a>, where he once again<\/a> slammed the network, alleging that the late night talk show was pulled for other reasons.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cHe was dumped because the people selling the network to Skydance said, \u2018Oh no, there\u2019s not going to be any trouble with that guy. We\u2019re going to take care of the show. We\u2019re just going to throw that into the deal. When will the ink on the check dry,’\u201d Letterman said.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI\u2019m just going to go on record as saying: They\u2019re lying. Let me just add one other thing, Jason. They\u2019re lying weasels,\u201d he added, referencing NYT writer Jason Zinoman.<\/p>\n

\n\tLast year, when CBS announced The Late Show would be coming to an end this May, the network said it was \u201cpurely a financial decision\u201d made in a declining linear TV landscape. When the NYT circled back with CBS after Letterman\u2019s latest comments, the spokesperson for the network reiterated, \u201cUnequivocally a financial decision.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tThe late night legend also told the newspaper about the network that he used to call home, \u201cThey don\u2019t share the books with me. All of television seems to have been nicked by digital communication and streaming platforms and on and on. TV may be not the money machine it once was. On the other hand, what about the humanity for Stephen and the humanity of people who love him and the humanity for people who still enjoyed that 11:30 respite?\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tLetterman hosted\u00a0The Late Show\u00a0for more than two decades, from 1993 to 2015, before Colbert took over.<\/p>\n

\n\tHe previously called the axing<\/a> of The Late Show \u201cpure cowardice,\u201d and said that CBS \u201cdid not handle Stephen Colbert, the face of that network, in the way he deserves.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI don\u2019t think it was money,\u201d Letterman added at the time. \u201cI think it was all to make sure [Skydance\u00a0head David Ellison, who became the CEO of\u00a0Paramount\u00a0when\u00a0the two companies merged last year<\/a>] were solid spending dad\u2019s money.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tThe Late Show with Stephen Colbert<\/a> will air its final episode on May 21, 2026.
