\n\tNo money changed hands in the settlement between Blake Lively<\/a> and Justin Baldoni<\/a>, but the legal fight between the \u201cIt Ends With Us<\/a>\u201d co-stars is not quite over.<\/p>\n

\n\tLively still has a pending motion<\/a> for attorneys\u2019 fees and damages in connection with Baldoni\u2019s failed defamation suit against her.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cAnyone purporting to confirm the terms of the confidential settlement at this point is misleading you,\u201d said a source close to the matter. \u201cMore information about this confidential settlement will be on the court\u2019s docket in the coming days.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tLively agreed on Monday to drop her three remaining claims against Wayfarer Studios and the company\u2019s team of publicists, avoiding a trial that was set to begin on May 18. Lively had alleged that Wayfarer \u2014 of which Baldoni is co-founder and co-chairman \u2014 illegally retaliated against her after she accused Baldoni of sexual harassment on the set of the film.<\/p>\n

\n\tMost of Lively\u2019s original claims \u2014 including all claims of sexual harassment \u2014 had already been dismissed last month.<\/p>\n

\n\tBy reaching a settlement, both sides avoided the multimillion-dollar cost of a federal trial. TMZ reported, along with Page Six and others, and Variety confirmed, that Lively received no compensation as part of the deal. Baldoni\u2019s side was said to be \u201cecstatic\u201d at the resolution of the case.<\/p>\n

\n\tBut Baldoni\u2019s $400 million defamation suit \u2014 which was thrown out<\/a> last June \u2014 still has to proceed to a final conclusion. Baldoni, Wayfarer, and the publicists filed the complaint in January 2025, alleging that Lively and her husband, Ryan Reynolds, and their publicists had leveraged false allegations of harassment in order to tarnish Baldoni\u2019s reputation and hijack the film.<\/p>\n

\n\tJudge Lewis Liman threw out the suit on the grounds that Lively\u2019s allegations were included in legal filings and therefore immune.<\/p>\n

\n\tIn their motion to dismiss the complaint, Lively\u2019s attorneys also sought attorneys\u2019 fees, treble damages, and punitive damages under a 2023 California law<\/a> meant to protect sexual abuse accusers from retaliatory defamation claims.<\/p>\n

\n\tIn his ruling, Liman took no position on whether the law \u2014 known as the Protecting Survivors from Weaponized Defamation Lawsuits Act \u2014 applied. He denied Lively\u2019s claim for fees and damages under the act, but invited her to renew the motion, which she did in September.<\/p>\n

\n\tBaldoni\u2019s attorneys opposed<\/a> the motion in October, arguing that it sought \u201cdraconian\u201d relief and infringed on Baldoni\u2019s constitutional right to petition the courts. The attorneys also argued that the California law should not apply to conduct that took place in New York and New Jersey. They later used a similar argument to successfully move to throw out Lively\u2019s harassment claims that were filed under California law.<\/p>\n

\n\tEqual Rights Advocates and the California Employment Lawyers Association, which sponsored the 2023 law, filed<\/a> an amicus brief in May 2025 arguing that Baldoni\u2019s defamation complaint was \u201cthe prototypical suit\u201d which the law was meant to address.<\/p>\n
