Federal U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents were at Wyckoff Heights Medical Center in Brooklyn after an immigrant they arrested needed medical attention.<\/p>\n
Anti-ICE protesters gathered outside, leading the police to be called to try to calm a chaotic scene.<\/p>\n
But advocates and some elected officials say the police crossed a line when they assisted ICE agents in taking the suspect out of the hospital. They claim that\u2019s a violation of the city\u2019s sanctuary city laws.<\/p>\n
Mayor Zohran Mamdani is pushing back, saying no coordination occurred between ICE and the police.<\/p>\n
Murad Awawdeh, the president and CEO of the New York Immigration Coalition, joined NY1 political anchor Errol Louis on \u201cInside City Hall\u201d Tuesday to discuss more.<\/p>\n
\u201c[The] NYPD did not pre-coordinate or pre-plan the detention of the individual, but they did, in essence, support to an extent post-detention. I think that\u2019s the piece and we\u2019ll call it what it is, it was crowd control. But to what extent does crowd control equal collusion?\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
