It\u2019s very overwhelming, and it hits a little bit more every day.\u201d Peeples said. \u201cIt\u2019s very overwhelming, and it hits a little bit more every day.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Peeples, who spent seven years with the airline after joining straight out of college, said the closure has disrupted not just her career but her daily routine and sense of community.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">\u201cWe all know each other,\u201d she said of the Houston base. \u201cThey really do become your family.\u201d<\/p>\n<ul class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 kDvXdO font_openSans articleList\">\n<li class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__StackBase-sc-1fnzlkn-7 ecGWWE iQviKm\"\/><\/ul>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">The airline shut down Saturday, ending operations abruptly and leaving workers with little time to prepare.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Peeples said one of her first concerns was the immediate loss of health insurance.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">\u201cI don\u2019t have healthcare. I can\u2019t go to the doctor,\u201d she said. \u201cPeople were scrambling to go get prescriptions filled because we only had that day.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">The Association of Flight Attendants-CWA, which represents cabin crews, directed affected workers to emergency resources following the closure. The Air Line Pilots Association described the shutdown as a \u201cdevastating blow\u201d impacting more than 2,000 pilots and thousands of additional employees.<\/p>\n<ul class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 kDvXdO font_openSans articleList\">\n<li class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__StackBase-sc-1fnzlkn-7 ecGWWE iQviKm\"\/><\/ul>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">For many, finding a new job in aviation will not be immediate.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Peeples said airline hiring is highly competitive and often limited to short application windows.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">\u201cMost airlines don\u2019t even keep applications up on a rolling basis,\u201d she said. \u201cYou could apply somewhere in December \u2026 and not start till March.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Even after being hired, new flight attendants typically undergo six to eight weeks of unpaid training, she said, adding to financial strain.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">\u201cYou\u2019re unpaid \u2026 everything at home is still going,\u201d Peeples said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">The uncertainty has forced some workers to consider leaving the industry altogether.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">\u201cIt involves moving,\u201d she said. \u201cYou don\u2019t really pick where you go.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Peeples said she is financially stable for about a month but remains unsure what comes next.
