Dave Grohl<\/a> has been on the promotional rounds for the new Foo Fighters<\/a> album and has been talking about the wheeze he came up with to hide advanced CDRs of Your Favourite Toy all over Southern California. <\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m still old skool,\u201d he told Stephen Colbert last night. \u201cI love doing things myself and I had day off and thought, \u2018you know what I\u2019ll do? I\u2019ll burn twenty CDs of our album before it\u2019s come out and me and my daughter Harper will get construction paper and we\u2019ll make album covers and then I\u2019ll go run around and hide them in places all over the San Fernando Valley.’\u201d<\/p>\n

So Grohl secreted them in various stores, though as he says, he was often suspected of being a shoplifter. \u201cI\u2019d walk in and I\u2019d have them hidden so I\u2019m already sketchy enough. Then I see the security guard person is eyeing me and it looks like I\u2019m shoplifting when I\u2019m doing the opposite.<\/p>\n

“I almost got busted in a Ralphs \u2013 I went back to the charcoal aisle, stuck it under a bag of Kingsford and as I walking out the security guard was looking at it like \u2018what?\u2019<\/p>\n

\u201cThen we posted little clues. It turned into like a scavenger hunt,\u201d he explained. \u201cAnd who doesn\u2019t like one of those?\u201d<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Grohl plus his bandmates Nate Mendel (bassist) and Chris Shiflett (guitar), made an appearance on the Track Star YouTube<\/a> channel, testing their music knowledge.<\/p>\n

The three Fighters were tossed some fairly easy ones for men of their age and background: The Clash, Van Halen, The Melvins, and Minor Threat – “I based my entire early years of trying to get a bass tone off that guy,” Mendel said of the band\u2019s bassist Steve Hansgen.<\/p>\n

We also found that Mendel\u2019s mom once made pancakes for another group of punk rock legends: NOFX. \u201cI put on a show for them and they needed to get fed,\u201d he quipped.<\/p>\n
