(Reuters) – Super Micro Computer forecast fourth-quarter revenue and adjusted profit above Wall Street estimates on Tuesday, banking on \u200crobust demand for its artificial intelligence<\/a> servers, sending its shares up \u200c18% in extended trading.<\/p>\n

The projections will likely reassure investors following the US Justice Department in \u200bMarch charging three people linked to the company for helping smuggle billions of dollars of AI chips to China.<\/p>\n

Super Micro projected fourth-quarter revenue in the range of $11 billion to $12.5 billion, compared with analysts’ average estimate of $11.07 billion, according to \u200cdata compiled by LSEG.<\/p>\n

The company \u2060expects adjusted profit per share in the range of 65 cents to 79 cents, above expectations of 55 cents.<\/p>\n

Super Micro \u2060has been a primary beneficiary of the AI boom, with its ability to quickly build and ship customized, high-performance servers making it a preferred vendor for \u200bdata center \u200boperators and AI startups.<\/p>\n

Demand has been strong \u200bfor its broader datacenter and \u200ccloud software suite, CEO Charles Liang said on a post-earnings call.<\/p>\n

The company’s sites in Taiwan, Malaysia and the Netherlands are all “ramping up aggressively”, he added.<\/p>\n

The combined AI outlays from Big Tech giants Alphabet, Amazon, Microsoft<\/a> and Meta Platforms are now projected to top $700 billion this year.<\/p>\n

SEEING NO IMPACT<\/p>\n

Super Micro’s relationship with \u200cvendors including Nvidia<\/a>, AMD and Intel has \u200bnot been impacted by the charging.<\/p>\n

“There has \u200bbeen no change in allocations,” \u200bChief Financial Officer David Weigand said on the earnings call.<\/p>\n

No \u200cone other than those named in \u200bthe indictment was involved, \u200bhe said.<\/p>\n

The company has started an independent investigation into the case.<\/p>\n

Super Micro posted revenue of $10.24 billion for the third quarter ended March 31, \u200ba jump of more \u200cthan 122% from the same period last year. It, however, missed \u200banalysts’ estimates of $12.33 billion.<\/p>\n
