{"id":777015,"date":"2026-05-06T10:03:23","date_gmt":"2026-05-06T10:03:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/777015\/"},"modified":"2026-05-06T10:03:23","modified_gmt":"2026-05-06T10:03:23","slug":"unsettling-adl-report-show-antisemitic-assaults-against-surging","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/777015\/","title":{"rendered":"Unsettling ADL report show antisemitic assaults against surging"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>More New Yorkers and Americans who outwardly identify as Jewish are being violently attacked or threatened, according to an unsettling new report released Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>The number of <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/04\/26\/us-news\/maniac-in-iranian-flag-t-shirt-pummels-three-jewish-men-in-nyc-sources\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">assaults <\/a>targeting Jewish victims in New York jumped nearly 10% last year from 82 to 90 and 4% nationwide, according to the Anti-Defamation League\u2019s annual audit of antisemitic incidents released Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>New York \u2014 which has the largest Jewish population of any state \u2014 accounted for 44% of all documented antisemitic assaults nationally.<\/p>\n<p>Mohamed Sabry Soliman launched a targeted terror attack in Colorado, setting at least one woman on fire as he lobbed Molotov cocktails at participants at an event for Israeli hostages still in Gaza.<\/p>\n<p>But there was an overall dip in antisemitic incidents, with a 19% decline in New York State in 2025 and a 33% drop nationally \u2014 although the totals were still double the totals in 2022, before the Hamas terror attacks on Oct. 7, 2023 that sparked an Israel campaign in Gaza. <\/p>\n<p>In contrast with the overall reduction, Brooklyn saw a 10% increase in antisemitic incidents in 2025, totaling 278, compared to 253 in 2024.<\/p>\n<p>Physical assaults rose in Brooklyn from 32 to 50, accounting for one quarter of all documented antisemitic assaults nationwide, the ADL said.<\/p>\n<p>Incidents targeting Orthodox Jews identified by their garb in Brooklyn increased 39% year-over-year, from 38 to 53.<\/p>\n<p>Jewish-motivated incidents against Brooklyn businesses jumped from 23 in 2024 to 40 in 2025.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhile it is encouraging that reported antisemitic incidents in New York fell by nearly 20% in<br \/>2025, the 1,160 cases which we tracked and responded to remains double the number before the massive spike post 10\/7, and I know firsthand that too many New Yorkers lived in fear in 2025 of being the victim of antisemitism,\u201d said ADL New York \/ New Jersey Regional Director Scott Richman.<\/p>\n<p>Elias Rosner was stabbed after leaving a Crown Heights Synagogue. Gabriella Bass for NY Post<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis decline does mark the first reversal of an upward trend that has persisted every year since 2021, but the numbers make clear that much work remains.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Last year marked one of the most violent and deadly periods for American Jews since ADL began tracking data in 1979.<\/p>\n<p>Three people were murdered in antisemitic attacks last year: <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/09\/04\/us-news\/dc-jewish-museum-terror-suspect-elias-rodriguez-arraigned-in-federal-court\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">two Israeli diplomats <\/a>gunned down in the May 21, 2025, shooting outside the Capital Jewish Museum in Washington, DC, and one victim who died from injuries sustained in the June 1, 2025, <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/06\/01\/us-news\/colorado-walk-firebombed-by-terrorist-was-peaceful-demonstration-for-hamas-hostages-this-was-not-a-protest\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">firebombing attack <\/a>at a \u201cRun for Their Lives\u201d event in Boulder, Colorado.<\/p>\n<p>An arsonist also torched the residence of Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro, who is Jewish, in an attempted political assassination.<\/p>\n<p>An 11-year-old girl was wearing traditional Jewish attire when she was attacked near Gerry Street and Harrison Avenue in South Williamsburg, Brooklyn, New York, on Feb. 7, 2026. NYPD<\/p>\n<p>Examples of incidents targeting Brooklyn and other city Jewish residents in 2025 include:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>In February, a Jewish girl was physically assaulted in South Williamsburg, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fox5ny.com\/news\/11-year-old-girl-victim-brooklyn-hate-crime-attack-suspect-wanted\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">dragged to the ground <\/a>by her hair, and thrown into a pile of trash.<\/li>\n<li>In April, a Brooklyn resident knocked on a Jewish neighbor\u2019s door and said, \u201cWe didn\u2019t kill enough of you Jews.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>In May, a group chased two Jewish people with a knife while yelling \u201cHeil Hitler\u201d and \u201cFree Palestine.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>In June, a thug harassed a Jewish man and his children walking home from synagogue, then physically attacked a bystander who intervened.<\/li>\n<li>Also in June, a Jewish family was attacked by a hoodlum who grabbed their stroller holding their baby and said, \u201cYou guys move [out] of the neighborhood.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>In December, a thug on a Manhattan subway punched a man wearing a hat denouncing antisemitism,<\/li>\n<li>Also in December, an Orthodox Jew <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/12\/22\/us-news\/brute-who-ranted-about-killing-a-jew-before-allegedly-stabbing-new-yorker-slapped-with-hate-crime-charges\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">was stabbed leaving <\/a>his synagogue in Crown Heights. The attacker said, \u201cF\u2013k these Jews.
