{"id":777181,"date":"2026-05-06T11:48:21","date_gmt":"2026-05-06T11:48:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/777181\/"},"modified":"2026-05-06T11:48:21","modified_gmt":"2026-05-06T11:48:21","slug":"oddo-architects-looks-to-urban-alleyways-for-th-house","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/777181\/","title":{"rendered":"ODDO Architects looks to urban alleyways for TH+ House"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Local studio <a href=\"http:\/\/dezeen.com\/tag\/oddo-architects\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">ODDO Architects<\/a> has extended TH+ House in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/tag\/vietnam\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Vietnam<\/a>, organising a series of shared, flexible spaces around tall voids informed by the &#8220;social intensity&#8221; of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/tag\/hanoi\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Hanoi&#8217;<\/a>s urban alleyways.<\/p>\n<p>The project saw <a href=\"https:\/\/oddoarchitects.com\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">ODDO Architects<\/a> returning to the site of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/2021\/12\/03\/th-house-oddo-architects-infill-plot-hanoi-vietnam\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">TH House, which it completed in 2021,<\/a> to expand it into a neighbouring 2.5-metre-wide plot for the client&#8217;s growing family.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2323835 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/th-house-oddo-architects-vietnam-extension-residential-houses_dezeen_2364_col_22-852x568.jpg\" alt=\"Vietnamese house\" width=\"2364\" height=\"1575\"   loading=\"lazy\"\/>ODDO Architects has extended its TH House in Vietnam<\/p>\n<p>With a site accessible only via narrow pedestrian alleyways, the studio looked to treat these constraints not as limitations but as &#8220;opportunities for social and spatial richness&#8221;, it said.<\/p>\n<p>Informed by Hanoi&#8217;s urban alleyways, ODDO Architects created a stacked series of flexible spaces overlooking tall central voids, with the whole organised around a branched steel support painted bright red.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2323816 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/th-house-oddo-architects-vietnam-extension-residential-houses_dezeen_2364_col_3-852x1277.jpg\" alt=\"TH+ House in Vietnam by ODDO Architects\" width=\"1577\" height=\"2364\"   loading=\"lazy\"\/>TH+ House references urban alleyways<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;In Hanoi&#8217;s alley neighbourhoods, vibrant community life is shaped by daily interactions \u2013 shared tea, small businesses, street games, and spontaneous social exchanges,&#8221; said the studio.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This social intensity became a key premise for the design of TH+ House,&#8221; it continued. &#8220;Rather than stacking isolated rooms, the layout is conceived as a series of layered environments with varying degrees of privacy, allowing visual connections across floors.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2323814 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/th-house-oddo-architects-vietnam-extension-residential-houses_dezeen_2364_col_1-852x1277.jpg\" alt=\"Interior of Vietnamese house\" width=\"1577\" height=\"2364\"   loading=\"lazy\"\/>The extension is organised around a red-steel support<\/p>\n<p>On the ground floor, a new kitchen space, which sits alongside a bathroom and small courtyard, flows directly into a dining area within the footprint of the existing home. A wall of folding glass doors opens onto the adjacent alley.<\/p>\n<p>Above, a living room, tea room and new bedrooms are kept visually linked through the introduction of internal windows and a bean-shaped opening, creating connections between both the new spaces and back into the existing home.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2323828 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/th-house-oddo-architects-vietnam-extension-residential-houses_dezeen_2364_col_15-852x1277.jpg\" alt=\"TH+ House in Vietnam by ODDO Architects\" width=\"1577\" height=\"2364\"   loading=\"lazy\"\/>Perforated walkways help light filter through the extension<\/p>\n<p>Each level connects back into the original TH House via perforated white-steel walkways, which enable natural light to filter through the interior. Exposed concrete floor plates and the central red-painted steel column support these walkways.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The central red steel column acts as both the structural backbone and the spatial organiser of the house,&#8221; the studio told Dezeen.<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/2021\/12\/03\/th-house-oddo-architects-infill-plot-hanoi-vietnam\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><br \/>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<img width=\"191\" height=\"191\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/th-house-oddo-architects_dezeen_2364_sq_0-191x191.jpg\" class=\"excludeLightbox wp-post-image\" alt=\"Exterior of TH House by ODDO Architects\" decoding=\"async\" data-pin-nopin=\"true\"   loading=\"lazy\"\/><\/p>\n<p> ODDO Architects builds TH House on tiny infill plot in Hanoi\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;By concentrating the load into a single element, it frees the plan from structural constraints, allowing for larger openings, flexible layouts, and continuous visual connections across the narrow footprint,&#8221; added ODDO Architects.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;As a result, the column is not only a technical solution but also expresses the project&#8217;s idea of openness, adaptability, and spatial generosity within tight urban conditions,&#8221; it added.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2323833 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/th-house-oddo-architects-vietnam-extension-residential-houses_dezeen_2364_col_20-852x1277.jpg\" alt=\"Terrace in Vietnam\" width=\"1577\" height=\"2364\"   loading=\"lazy\"\/>Concrete is left exposed throughout<\/p>\n<p>While the lower spaces are defined by dark stone floors and exposed concrete ceilings, the upper levels have been lined in timber panels to create a warmer character.<\/p>\n<p>ODDO Architects has offices in Hanoi and in Havirov, Czech Republic, and is led by three partners: Nguy\u1ec5n \u0110\u1ee9c Trung, Mai Lan Chi Obtulovi\u010dov\u00e1 and Marek Obtulovi\u010d.
