As much as people try to pigeonhole San Antonio as a Tejano town, the Heavy Metal Capital of the World or the city where classic rock never dies, we play host to plenty of diverse musical acts. <\/p>\n
Case in point: this week, where frantic garage rock, piano-driven soft rock, full-twang country, \u201990s butt rock and a touring Grateful Dead tribute are all on the roster. Check it out below.<\/p>\n
Wednesday, May 6<\/strong><\/p>\n Frankie and the Witch Fingers, Gus Baldwin and the Sketch<\/strong><\/p>\n LA\u2019s Frankie and the Witch Fingers play full-throttle, blistering garage rock that starts at full speed and keeps gunning. Gus Baldwin and the Sketch mine a similar stylistic vein, including bits of the Ramones and the harmonized guitar acrobatics of Television thrown in for good measure. St. Mary\u2019s St.,\u00a0papertigersatx.com. \u2014 Bill Baird<\/strong><\/p>\n Eric Hutchinson<\/strong><\/p>\n Singer-songwriter Eric Hutchinson has built a career on a brand of soft rock and piano pop that harkens back to the days of FM radio. His biggest commercial success came with his 2008 release Sounds Like This, which spawned hits such as \u201cRock N\u2019 Roll\u201d and \u201cOK You\u2019re Alright With Me.\u201d Fantasy football fans might recognize Hutchinson\u2019s voice from his theme song for the popular ESPN \u201cFantasy Focus\u201d podcast. $38.17, 8 p.m., Sam\u2019s Burger Joint, 330 E. What\u2019s not to love?\u00a0 Austin\u2019s Croy and the Boys, meanwhile, make the kind of unpolished C&W which everyone can love: fun-loving, clever, soulful, rough-hewn and joyous. $20, 9 p.m., The Lonesome Rose, 2114 N. Tickets may be pricey for a tribute act, but diehard Deadheads give high praise to the live show and set list selections \u2014 some of which are based on actual Dead performances. This unique show will take place in Ear Bender Studios, Jed Craddock\u2019s newly opened recording studio. Get in where you fit in. But don\u2019t hold that against the act, which has continued to tour and release albums full of squeaky clean rock sounds.
