Across Maverick, Val Verde, Uvalde, Zavala, Medina, and Kendall counties, another 71 leaks were reported during the same six-month period.

Altogether, that is more than 1,500 reported gas leaks across the broader San Antonio region in just half a year.

In Bexar County, CPS Energy is the primary natural gas provider responsible for maintaining the system. Records show 532 of the 1,043 local leaks were classified as Grade 1, the most serious category requiring immediate repair.

Attorney Michael Lyons, who has handled gas explosion cases for decades, says leaks become dangerous when they find an ignition source.

All you need is a competent ignition source to meet that fuel load, and it can cause a very intense explosion,” Lyons said.

Lyons recently won a $110 million verdict in Bexar County in a similar case and is now representing two families affected by the Preston Hollow explosion, though he has not commented further since taking the case.

He says aging infrastructure is a major concern.

“What we see throughout Texas is that a lot of these gas systems are old. They are deteriorating, and they are leaking,” Lyons said.

For comparison, Harris County reported more than 9,000 gas leaks in the same period, while Dallas County reported more than 5,600.

Back in Preston Hollow, investigators are still working to determine what caused the explosion. A key part of that process is the PS-95 leak report, which documents the location, severity, and cause of a leak, as well as how it was repaired.

Those are the answers investigators are still working to find.

SAN ANTONIO – Two weeks after two homes were destroyed in an explosion on the Northeast Side that…

[5133
5229,7202,7203,358,3187,67,586,132,5230,68,2969
0":"post-777495","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-san-antonio","8":"tag-america","9":"tag-san-antonio","10":"tag-sanantonio","11":"tag-texas","12":"tag-tx","13":"tag-united-states","14":"tag-united-states-of-america","15":"tag-unitedstates","16":"tag-unitedstatesofamerica","17":"tag-us","18":"tag-usa
["GET
