Does anyone else need to take a few deep breaths? The eighth and final episode of the season contains so many huge moments, so much incredible action, so many teases to the future, and everything in between, we just felt like we had to break it all down, moment by moment. It was that good. Obviously, massive spoilers follow.

“I Am Daredevil”

Stuck between a rock and a hard place, Matt Murdock played the only card he had left in his deck. He revealed to the world that he is, indeed, Daredevil. He himself was the corroborating witness with the power to put Wilson Fisk behind bars, validating everything that had been said before in Karen’s trial. How will that reveal play out not just in future seasons of Daredevil, but also in the rest of the MCU as a whole? Stay tuned.

Darth Kingpin

We’ve seen Kingpin be vicious before, but his actions in this episode, all throughout the courthouse, were unfathomable. Truly, he looked like Darth Vader at the end of Rogue One, killing people left and right without a worry in his mind. The level of violence and destruction was so high that, clearly, we all assumed that he would suffer and pay for it, right? Right?

Luke Cage Is Back

We had a strong feeling that when Jessica Jones mentioned someone had taken Mr. Charles up on his high-priced superhero work, it was Luke Cage. And now, finally, at the end of season two, we see Luke return to Jessica as well as his daughter, Danielle. (Fans also saw this because actor Mike Colter was caught on the set of season three, so this probably wasn’t as big a reveal as it was originally planned.)

One final meal – Marvel Studios Matt Is In prison

Admitting to being Daredevil opened Matt Murdock up to the crimes of his vigilante persona, and, as he fully expected, that caught up with him real fast. While he and Karen ate at her favorite Indian restaurant, the authorities arrested Matt and took him to prison, setting the stage for a whole new storyline in season three (presumably a riff on the classic “The Devil in Cell Block D” comics storyline).

A New Muse?

All throughout the season, we’ve watched Heather Glenn, Matt’s ex and current Fisk employee, suffer from the trauma she experienced surviving an attack from Muse. Well, in one of the finale’s most chilling moments, we watch as Heather puts Muse’s mask on herself and she finally sees herself exactly how she wants to. Is she going to go on a reign of terror like her attacker? (Turns out recent set pictures say yes!)

Oh, But Also…

Truly, there are so many fantastic moments in this episode. The courtroom drama. BB unmasking herself. Bullseye foiling the plot to frame him for assassination. The crowds all masked up and fighting back like something out of V for Vendetta. Matt and Wilson making the deal. Just high drama all around.

Kingpin destroys – Marvel Studios A Few Other Strands

Before we get to the big last thing, there a few other side notes we think are worth noting. BB gets a job at the New York Bulletin, the same place her dad, Ben Urich, worked. Mr. Charles hires Bullseye as his new international superhero, and Jessica potentially relaunches her company, Alias Investigations. Just a bunch of little threads to explore next year. But also…

Kingpin is free

In maybe the most upsetting reveal of the season is the fact that Kingpin gets away. He doesn’t escape, though. No, he’s so evil, so brutal, and so unstoppable in every way that he cuts a deal allowing him to just disappear in exchange for not continuing his reign of terror. After everything he did to the city of New York, its citizens, as Mayor, with the ship, in the courthouse, and more, that he just gets to walk away free is painful. But, also, somehow, the easiest decision for everyone. Will he come back next year? Time will tell.

The full second season of Daredevil: Born Again season two is now streaming on Disney+.

Want more io9 news?
