MY NAME IS COLONEL JEFFREY NOBLE, AND I SERVE AS THE SUPERINTENDENT OF THE MASSACHUSETTS STATE POLICE. TODAY, THE MASSACHUSETTS STATE POLICE MOURNS THE LINE OF DUTY DEATH OF TROOPER KEVIN TRAINOR, WHO WAS KILLED THIS MORNING BY A WRONG-WAY DRIVER AT THE CONCLUSION OF HIS SHIFT THIS MORNING, SHORTLY BEFORE 2 A.M., TROOPER TRAINOR BEGAN HIS COMMUTE HOME. MINUTES LATER, A 911 CALLER REPORTED A WRONG WAY DRIVER DRIVING SOUTHBOUND IN THE NORTHBOUND LANES ON ROUTE ONE IN LYNNFIELD. SEVERAL DEDICATED TROOPERS IN THE AREA RESPONDED, CONVERGING TO THE AREA AND LOCATED THE VEHICLE TRAVELING THE WRONG WAY. AT 2:03 A.M. AND JUST ONE MINUTE LATER, AT 2:04 A.M., THE VEHICLE, A JEEP COLLIDED WITH TROOPER TRAINOR\u2019S CRUISER HEAD ON. IN THE BLINK OF AN EYE. THOSE RECKLESS ACTIONS STOLE KEVIN FROM BARBARA. HIS MOTHER JESSICA, HIS FIANCE AND HIS SIBLINGS MELISSA, MATTHEW, DAVID AND STEPHEN. THOSE RECKLESS ACTIONS STOLE HIM FROM HIS FAMILY AS WELL AS HIS BROTHERS AND SISTERS WITH THE MASSACHUSETTS STATE POLICE. WE KNOW THAT THERE ARE DIFFICULT DAYS THAT LIE AHEAD FOR KEVIN\u2019S FAMILY AND THE MASSACHUSETTS STATE POLICE AND HIS ALL OF HIS COLLEAGUES, PAST AND CURRENT. TODAY AND ALWAYS. WE WILL STAND ALONGSIDE THEM TO SUPPORT THEM AND HONOR OF KEVIN\u2019S MEMORY. NOTHING WILL EVER REPAIR THE PAIN THAT WE FEEL TODAY, BUT WE MAKE A SOLEMN PROMISE WE WILL NEVER FORGET HIS SERVICE AS A DECORATED MASSACHUSETTS STATE TROOPER AT JUST 30 YEARS OLD AND A TROOPER OF ONLY THREE YEARS, KEVIN EPITOMIZED WHAT IT MEANS TO BE A PUBLIC SERVANT IN THE COMMONWEALTH OF MASSACHUSETTS. KEVIN REPRESENTS THE BEST OF THE BEST, THE BEST OF WHO WE ARE. HE BEGAN HIS CAREER AS A CORRECTIONS OFFICER IN ESSEX COUNTY. HE DISTINGUISHED HIMSELF AS A MEMBER OF THE MASSACHUSETTS STATE POLICE 88TH RECRUIT TRAINING TROOP, GRADUATING IN 2023. DURING HIS THREE YEARS ON OUR JOB, HE SERVED AS A FIELD TRAINING OFFICER OR A TROOPER COACH. HE MENTORED NEW TROOPERS AND SET THE STANDARD FOR PROFESSIONALISM. HE EARNED A PLACE ON THE PRESTIGIOUS TROOP, A COMMUNITY ACTION TEAM, AND PATROLLED OUR ROADS WITH A SINGULAR FOCUS, KEEPING THE PEOPLE OF THIS COMMONWEALTH SAFE BEYOND HIS PROFESSIONAL ACCOMPLISHMENTS, TROOPER TRAINOR\u2019S CLASSMATES HAVE SHARED STORIES OF HIS GENUINE CARE AND CONCERN FOR OTHERS. AS ONE PERSON PUT IT, HE WAS THE GUY THAT YOU WANTED AS YOUR BACKUP, NOT JUST ON THE JOB, BUT IN HIS PERSONAL LIFE TOO. MAKE NO MISTAKE, TROOPER TRAINOR TODAY SAVED LIVES THIS MORNING. HIS COURAGE, HIS COMMITMENT TO SERVE THE CITIZENS OF THE COMMONWEALTH AND EVEN BE WILLING TO PUT HIS LIFE ON THE LINE, WHICH HE DID TODAY. PREVENTED AN EVEN GREATER TRAGEDY. I AM CONFIDENT THAT HAD THIS TRAGEDY NOT OCCURRED, THERE WOULD HAVE BEEN COUNTLESS OTHER TRAGEDIES DOWN THE ROAD. HE WILL BE REMEMBERED AS A HERO. I AM GRATEFUL TO STAND IN THIS MOMENT WITH OUR GOVERNOR, THE SECRETARY OF PUBLIC SAFETY AND OUR PARTNERS, OUR LAW ENFORCEMENT PARTNERS. He did what all troopers will do, on-duty or off-duty, and that is be there to help, and that is what he did,&#8221; Massachusetts State Police Col. Geoffrey Noble said. Trainor, who works out of the Danvers barracks, was taken to Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, where he was later pronounced dead. The wrong-way driver, who has not been identified, died at the scene.Trainor, who is survived by his mother, Barbara, his fianc\u00e9e, Jessica, and several siblings, began his career as a corrections officer in Essex County and has been with the Massachusetts State Police Department since his graduation from the academy in 2023.  &#8220;Make no mistake, Trooper Trainor, today, saved lives this morning. His courage, his commitment to serve the citizens of the commonwealth, and even be willing to put his life on the line, which he did today, prevented an even greater tragedy, for I am confident that had this tragedy not occurred, there would have been countless other tragedies down the road. He will be remembered as a hero,&#8221; Noble said.Gov. Maura Healey extended her gratitude to the trooper&#8217;s family and said Trainor was doing a &#8220;hero&#8217;s work&#8221; when he lost his life.&#8221;Kevin came from a family that is committed to public service &#8212; his siblings who I met &#8212; an EMT, a firefighter, a physician&#8217;s assistant, among others, and Kevin was about public service, and that is what his all-too-brief-career was about,&#8221; Healey said. This act of service and courage is what our State Police are called to do every day. They show up ready to face danger so the rest of us can be safe. Today, Massachusetts is mourning one of those heroes,&#8221; Gov.
