\n\tHBO<\/a> has officially greenlit a second season of its upcoming \u201cHarry Potter<\/a>\u201d series, which will debut its first season this Christmas.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe news aligns with the network\u2019s plan to adapt all seven of J.K. Rowling\u2019s \u201cHarry Potter\u201d books into seven seasons of television over the course of a decade. Season 2, which will be based on the book \u201cHarry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets,\u201d will begin filming this fall.<\/p>\n

\n\tJon Brown, a writer on the first season of the adaptation, has been promoted to serve as co-showrunner on Season 2. He joins current showrunner Francesca Gardiner, who said in a statement, \u201cAs we have laid out our plans for the overlapping production schedules to finish Season 1 by Christmas and to return to production for Season 2 this autumn, it has become clear that bringing on a co-showrunner is the key to maintaining our momentum. I\u2019ve loved working with Jon from the very first day we met on \u2018Succession\u2019 through to these recent times together on \u2018Harry Potter.\u2019 Not only do I have huge admiration for his writing, but he\u2019s also a brilliant collaborator and a lovely person. We are lucky to have him.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI\u2019m incredibly excited to be collaborating with Francesca as co-showrunner,\u201d said Brown. \u201cIt has been a joy to write on \u2018Philosopher\u2019s Stone\u2019 and I\u2019d like to thank Francesca and HBO for putting their faith in me to continue this remarkable journey. \n\tTitled \u201cHarry Potter and the Philosopher\u2019s Stone\u201d \u2014 based on the U.K. version of the first \u201cHarry Potter\u201d book\u2019s title \u2014 Season 1 begins with Harry\u2019s (Dominic McLaughlin) 11th birthday, when he receives a letter of admittance to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, which opens up a new world for him while also forcing him to face a dangerous enemy from his past.<\/p>\n

\n\tGardiner serves as executive producer alongside director Mark Mylod; Rowling; Neil Blair and Ruth Kenley-Letts of Bront\u00eb Film and TV; and David Heyman of Heyday Films. Warner Bros.
