{"id":778238,"date":"2026-05-06T22:34:10","date_gmt":"2026-05-06T22:34:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/778238\/"},"modified":"2026-05-06T22:34:10","modified_gmt":"2026-05-06T22:34:10","slug":"highway-to-heaven-reboot-gets-fox-series-order-for-2027-28","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/778238\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8216;Highway To Heaven&#8217; Reboot Gets Fox Series Order For 2027-28"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\t<strong>EXCLUSIVE<\/strong>: As <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/fox\/\" id=\"auto-tag_fox\" data-tag=\"fox\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Fox<\/a> is getting ready to launch a reboot of one of its 1980s TV series, Baywatch, this coming season, the network is bringing back another classic \u201980s TV title, <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/highway-to-heaven\/\" id=\"auto-tag_highway-to-heaven\" data-tag=\"highway-to-heaven\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Highway To Heaven<\/a>, for the following season.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tLooking ahead, Fox has ordered a new take on <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/michael-landon\/\" id=\"auto-tag_michael-landon\" data-tag=\"michael-landon\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Michael Landon<\/a>\u2018s Highway To Heaven from writer-producer <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/jason-katims\/\" id=\"auto-tag_jason-katims\" data-tag=\"jason-katims\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Jason Katims<\/a> (Friday Night Lights, Parenthood), <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/amblin-television\/\" id=\"auto-tag_amblin-television\" data-tag=\"amblin-television\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Amblin Television<\/a> and Michael Landon Productions to premiere during the 2027-28 season. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tThe contemporary reimagining is produced by Fox Entertainment Studios and owned by Fox as part of its push to control a significant portion of its content. It will be distributed worldwide by Fox Entertainment Global.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tThe new series will keep the original\u2019s uplifting, emotional storytelling and themes of compassion, humanity and second chances while putting an original spin on its premise of a \u201cprobationary angel,\u201d who is sent to Earth to earn his wings by helping people in need.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\t\u201cI\u2019m excited by the challenge of putting a contemporary lens on this classic tale,\u201d Katims said. \u201cThe idea of telling a very grounded, human story about an angel feels immediately emotional to me \u2014 and fun. I love going outside my comfort zone to tell a tale about someone trying to do better as an angel than he did as a man.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tHighway To Heaven taps into the current popularity of feel-good programming. Possibly fueled by what is going in the the world, the trend has viewers gravitating to shows with adventure and optimism. Fox got into that lane a couple of years ago and has found success there with series such as Doc and the fully-owned Best Medicine, a streak it is looking to continue with Baywatch. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tThe new Highway To Heaven is executive produced by Katims, who will serve as showrunner, Amblin Television\u2019s Darryl Frank, Justin Falvey, and Todd Cohen, alongside Mark Itkin and Michael Landon Productions\u2019 Cindy Landon \u2013 widow of creator Michael Landon \u2013 and Wayne Lepoff. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tKatims\u2019 expansive resume includes several shows with similar emotional, uplifting \u2014 while grounded \u2014 storytelling, most notably his signature series, Friday Night Lights and Parenthood, on which he served as showrunner and executive producer. (He also developed Parenthood.)<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tThat hopeful tone is part of Amblin\u2019s DNA too with such Spielberg movies as E.T. and the Indiana Jones and Jurassic Park franchises.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\t\u201cWith the incredible pairing of\u00a0Jason Katims, Cindy Landon, and the\u00a0Amblin team, we\u2019re building on Highway to Heaven\u2019s timeless legacy of transformation and optimism in a way that feels deeply relevant and relatable\u00a0to\u00a0our audience,\u201d\u00a0said Michael Thorn, President of Fox Television Network.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tCreated by Landon, Highway To Heaven aired on NBC for five seasons, from 1984-89. Landon starred as Jonathan Smith, an angel in probation sent to Earth by The Boss (God) to do good deeds. Victor French co-starred as Mark Gordon, a retired policeman who traveled with Smith to help him with his \u201cassignments\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\t\u201cHighway to Heaven has always been about connection, compassion and the idea that small acts can have big ripple effects and make a lasting difference,\u201d Cindy Landon said. \u201cI\u2019m proud to help carry Michael\u2019s legacy forward with partners like Fox and Amblin, who understand the heart of this series and are bringing it to a new generation at just the right moment.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tKatims\u2019 series credits also include We See It, My So-Called Life, The Path, Away, Dear Edward, Roswell, About A Boy, Boston Public, and Rise.
