{"id":778784,"date":"2026-05-07T04:06:15","date_gmt":"2026-05-07T04:06:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/778784\/"},"modified":"2026-05-07T04:06:15","modified_gmt":"2026-05-07T04:06:15","slug":"pope-leo-called-his-bank-to-change-his-address-and-phone-number-they-hung-up-on-him","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/778784\/","title":{"rendered":"Pope Leo called his bank to change his address and phone number; they hung up on him"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Two months into his pontificate, Pope Leo XIV called his bank in South Chicago to change his phone number and address.<\/p>\n<p>The former Robert Prevost answered all his security questions posed by the teller, but there was still a problem.<\/p>\n<p>To change his phone number and address, he was told he\u2019d have to show up in person.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c\u2018Well, I\u2019m not going to be able to do that,\u2019\u201d said Pope Leo, according to his longtime friend, the Rev. Tom McCarthy, <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=U-6zpCzTt8M&amp;t=2642s\" target=\"_blank\" data-cms-ai=\"0\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">who told the story April 29<\/a> to the Fishers of Men at Saints Peter and Paul in Naperville.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c\u2018We can\u2019t do it over the phone?\u2019\u201d the pope asked, according to McCarthy. \u201c\u2018I already gave you all the security questions.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p>After that, he tried pulling rank.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWould it matter to you if I told you I\u2019m Pope Leo?\u201d the pope apparently asked.<\/p>\n<p>Click.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe hung up on him,\u201d McCarthy said. \u201cCould you imagine being known as the woman who hung up on the pope?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>So, the pope made some more phone calls.<\/p>\n<p>He reached McCarthy\u2019s classmate, the Rev. Bernie Scianna, who \u201csomehow\u201d got someone who reached the bank\u2019s president, McCarthy said.
