{"id":779667,"date":"2026-05-07T12:56:19","date_gmt":"2026-05-07T12:56:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/779667\/"},"modified":"2026-05-07T12:56:19","modified_gmt":"2026-05-07T12:56:19","slug":"city-council-to-vote-on-project-marvel-contracts-as-spurs-playoff-excitement-grows","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/779667\/","title":{"rendered":"City Council to vote on Project Marvel contracts as Spurs playoff excitement grows"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\"><strong>SAN ANTONIO<\/strong> \u2013 There\u2019s growing excitement across San Antonio after the Spurs\u2019 latest playoff win \u2014 but city leaders are also preparing to approve millions more tied to the proposed downtown sports and entertainment district known as Project Marvel.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">The San Antonio City Council is scheduled to vote Thursday on two contracts on the city\u2019s proposed, multi-billion-dollar sports and entertainment district in Hemisfair, known as \u201cProject Marvel.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">The meeting begins at 9 a.m., with a briefing on the proposed district high on the agenda. <b>The meeting will be livestreamed in this article; delays are possible, if there isn\u2019t a livestream available, check back at a later time.<\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Though a new Spurs arena is at the heart of the vision for the district, it also includes plans for mixed-use development, a possible expansion of the Henry B. Gonz\u00e1lez Convention Center, the conversion of the John Woods Courthouse into a live entertainment venue, and more.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">The city plans to award Accenture Infrastructure and Capital Projects the contract to coordinate and manage development activity in the district as the \u201cexecutive program manager\u201d (EPM). <\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">The $6 million contract is for the \u201cfirst phase\u201d through March 2027, though it can be renewed in additional one-year increments through September 2031.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">The council will also vote on a one-year, $350,000 contract with MuniCap to conduct a cost-of-service study for the district.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">The Maryland-based public finance consulting company would look at how much it will cost to provide core city services to the area, like police, fire, traffic, and park maintenance. <\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">It would also be charged with forecasting how much money the district will bring to the city and new opportunities for generating revenue.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Despite concerns over taxpayer costs, many Spurs fans say they are excited about the possibility of a new home for the team.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">\u201cWe went to a lot of the kickoff parties, we\u2019ve been involved and pushed for what\u2019s going to happen,\u201d Spurs fan Tom Zuniga said. \u201cThat\u2019s going to be the home that Wemby built.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Others say the project could bring energy and opportunities to the city.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">\u201cWe need something positive in the city for the kids, too,\u201d Berlinda Zuniga said. \u201cPlaces where they can go and look up to.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Both consultants were selected through a competitive process, but their contracts need council approval.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\"><b>Read also:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 kDvXdO font_openSans articleList\">\n<li class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__StackBase-sc-1fnzlkn-7 ecGWWE iQviKm\"\/><\/ul>\n<p>Copyright 2026 by KSAT &#8211;
