Yet, after days of supposed leaks and whispers, we now know a little bit more of how their bitter and trial bound battle ended this week in <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/2026\/05\/blake-lively-justin-baldoni-settlement-it-ends-with-us-1236880265\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">an 11th hour settlement<\/a>, and what\u2019s coming next.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\t\u201cNotwithstanding anything herein to the contrary, the Stipulating Parties acknowledge and agree that Blake Lively does not release, and retains all claims, rights, and remedies in connection with her pending Motion for Attorneys\u2019 Fees, Treble Damages and PunitiveDamages under California Civil Code Section 47.1 in the Wayfarer Action,\u201d<a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/settlement-notice-may-7-1_Redacted.pdf\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"> reveals a notice of settlement<\/a> just filed in federal court in New York.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\t\u201cThe Stipulating Parties agree that the 47.1 Motion is not withdrawn and remains pending before this Court,\u201d it adds. \u201cThe Stipulating Parties further agree that they hereby irrevocably waive any appeal from the Court\u2019s determination of the 47.1 Motion.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tWith damages that could be tripled in the millions if the next stage goes Lively\u2019s way, the Golden State\u2019s 2023-introduced Protecting Survivors from Weaponized Defamation Lawsuits Act (AKA Civil Code Section 47.1) now sits at the base of this week\u2019s settlement as a ticking time bomb for Baldoni, his <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/wayfarer-studios\/\" id=\"auto-tag_wayfarer-studios\" data-tag=\"wayfarer-studios\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Wayfarer Studios<\/a> brass and his Crisis PR team.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tEither Team Baldoni blinked, as Deadline said when the settlement was revealed earlier this week, someone didn\u2019t keep their eye on the ball for the defendants, or there is a very long game being played here. Regardless, there are still some unknowns. Still, after days of speculation, there are a few things we now know are true. For instance, it\u2019s true, as you may have heard,\u00a0 Lively hasn\u2019t snagged any cash from the Wayfarer Studios defendants in this settlement. It\u2019s also true that could change, big time.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\t\u201cIt pulls back in Mr. Baldoni, Mr. Heath, Mr. Sarowitz, Jennifer Abel, Melisa Nathan, all of the Wayfarer parties we have on this issue, and they will have to face whatever punishment Judge Liman finds is appropriate under this new law,\u201d notes Lively attorney Sigrid McCowley to Deadline this morning. \u201cThey have waived their right to appeal. In other words, this will be the final judgment by this court, and it will not be able to hold things up with years of appeals.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\t\u201cThis settlement is a resounding victory for Blake Lively,\u201d bluntly adds the actress\u2019 other lawyers Esra A. Hudson and Michael Gottlieb.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tRepresentatives for Baldoni and the other Wayfarer Studios defendants did not respond to request for comment on today\u2019s settlement filing and what the consequences could be. It should be noted that the notice of settlement, which still needs to be approved by the judge, was signed by Baldoni lawyer Ellyn Garofalo too.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tWhile the nearly 18 months-and-counting core case between the Another Simple Favor star and the Jane the Virgin actor is now in the rearview, there still remains motions in court from Lively over Baldoni\u2019s dismissed $400 million countersuit. Judge Lewis Liman<a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/2025\/06\/blake-lively-justin-baldoni-countersuit-dismissed-1236428187\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"> tossed Baldoni and gang\u2019s countersuit in June last year,<\/a> but he never offered a ruling on the contention of Lively\u2019s lawyers that California\u2019s Protecting Survivors from Weaponized Defamation Lawsuits Act applied to the matter. Now, with that inflection point in play, a quick return to court is assured under the requirements of the settlement \u2013 \u2013 which now could be the whole ballgame for Team Baldoni.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\t\u201cBy agreeing to this settlement, and waiving their right to appeal, Justin Baldoni and every individual defendant now face personal liability for abusing the legal system to silence and intimidate Ms. Lively,\u201d Manatt, Phelps &amp; Phillips\u2019 Hudson and Willkie Farr &amp; Gallagher attorney Gottlieb stated to Deadline. \u201cAnd by admitting that Ms. Lively\u2019s concerns \u201cdeserved to be heard,\u201d the defendants have ended once and for all the fiction that Ms. Lively \u201cfabricated\u201d claims of sexual harassment and retaliation. From day one Blake Lively\u2019s mission was clear: expose and hold accountable those who weaponize smear campaigns and retaliatory lawsuits to intimidate and silence survivors. That mission continues.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tUnder the mechanisms of the court, the matter could be before Judge Lewis Liman within weeks. It should be noted the May 18 trial date has not been vacated and still sits there on the court\u2019s calendar.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tEven though attempts at some kind of settlement had seemed to<a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/2026\/04\/blake-lively-latest-justin-baldoni-settlement-efforts-fail-1236783233\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"> fail and fail again<\/a> over the past six months, it is now clear a parallel mediation was taking place over the past weekend to reach a deal. While the formal filing of the settlement occurred this AM, a term-sheet was inked by the parties for Monday laying out the basic and binding tenets, I hear.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tIn that context, there\u2019s also the<a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/2026\/04\/blake-lively-justin-baldoni-sexual-harassment-claims-dismissed-1236772610\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"> fact Lively\u2019s sexual harassment allegation and many of her other claims were tossed out last month<\/a>. Still, as recently as April 3, the actress was asking supporters to not<a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/2026\/04\/blake-lively-vow-fight-justin-baldoni-after-lawsuit-trimmed-1236773371\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"> \u201cbe distracted by the digital soap opera<\/a>\u201d as the May 18 starting trial approached. Suddenly, as lawyers sparred in the federal court docket over experts and more pre-trial business, there was an armistice proclaimed earlier this week. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tA temporary armistice it appears.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\t\u201cSection 47.1 imposes severe and mandatory penalties against any party who files unsuccessful retaliatory defamation actions against sexual harassment and retaliation complainants,\u201d states<a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/Lively-WayfarerLetter-to-Judge-1_Redacted.pdf\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"> a letter to Judge Liman<\/a> from Lively\u2019s lawyers that was also filed Thursday morning. \u201cUnder Section 47.1, any \u2018communication made by an individual, without malice, regarding an incident of sexual assault, harassment, or discrimination [including retaliation] is privileged\u2019 so long as the speaker \u2018has, or at any time had, a reasonable basis to file a complaint of sexual assault, harassment, or discrimination, whether the complaint is, or was, filed or not.&#8217;\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tOn May 4, nearly a year and a half after<a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/2024\/12\/blake-lively-justin-baldoni-sexual-harassment-it-ends-with-us-1236240072\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">\u00a0Lively filed her initial sexual harassment and retaliation complaint in late 2024 against Baldoni and his inner circle with the California Civil Rights Department,<\/a>\u00a0and just weeks before the whole shebang was set to finally go to trial in NYC, lawyers for the principal parties dropped the bombshell news that they had reached a deal.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tIn the spirit of such a peace, the attorneys at the opening of this week put out a very carefully worded and framed joint statement of a settlement. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\t\u201cWe acknowledge the process presented challenges and recognize concerns raised by Ms. Lively deserved to be heard,\u201d said the release from\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/bryan-freedman\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Bryan Freedman<\/a>, Ellyn Garofalo, Michael Gottlieb and Esra Hudson. Leaning on the harassment issues and the alleged online smear campaign against Lively they added: \u201cWe remain firmly committed to workplaces free of improprieties and unproductive environments. It is our sincere hope that this brings closure and allows all involved to move forward constructively and in peace, including a respectful environment online.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tA few hours later, without hubby <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/ryan-reynolds\/\" id=\"auto-tag_ryan-reynolds\" data-tag=\"ryan-reynolds\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Ryan Reynolds<\/a>,<a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/2026\/05\/blake-lively-met-gala-justin-baldoni-settlement-1236880828\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"> Lively swanned on to the red carpet <\/a>at this year\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/met-gala\/\" id=\"auto-tag_met-gala\" data-tag=\"met-gala\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Met Gala<\/a> in full A-lister force. <\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"c-lazy-image__img lrv-u-background-color-grey-lightest lrv-u-width-100p lrv-u-display-block lrv-u-height-auto\" src=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/wp-content\/themes\/pmc-deadline-2019\/assets\/public\/lazyload-fallback.jpg\" data-lazy-src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/GettyImages-2274544964.jpg\" alt=\"Blake Lively attends the 2026 Met Gala celebrating \" costume=\"\" art=\"\" at=\"\" the=\"\" metropolitan=\"\" museum=\"\" of=\"\" on=\"\" may=\"\" data-lazy- data-lazy- height=\"683\" width=\"1024\" decoding=\"async\"\/><\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\tBlake Lively attends the 2026 Met Gala celebrating \u201cCostume Art\u201d <\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tDimitrios Kambouris\/Getty Images for The Met Museum\/Vogue)<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tThe next day, as weak sauce claims that the multi-million dollar damages-seeking Lively received no cash in the settlement swirled around, Deadpool star Reynolds posted a happy couple selfie on his IG, deadening any rumblings of a riff in the Reynolds-Lively house.<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"c-lazy-image__img lrv-u-background-color-grey-lightest lrv-u-width-100p lrv-u-display-block lrv-u-height-auto\" src=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/wp-content\/themes\/pmc-deadline-2019\/assets\/public\/lazyload-fallback.jpg\" data-lazy-src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/Screenshot-2026-05-06-at-6.17.35\u202fPM.png\" alt=\"\" data-lazy- data-lazy- height=\"1024\" width=\"634\" decoding=\"async\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tBaldoni\u2019s lead attorney Freedman, who became an object of scorn and repeated attempts at sanctions for the Lively side, has expressed \u201cI can\u2019t talk about the terms of the settlement, but what I can tell you is that he is ecstatic, that both Jamie and Justin are ecstatic at the results of this and the settlement itself,\u201d the litigator told Extra this week of Wayfarer Studios CEO Jamie Heath and Nashville resident Baldoni. \u201cThey are very pleased with where this ended up,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tPerhaps, but with California\u2019s Section 47.1 putting Baldoni, Heath, Wayfarer co-founder Steve Sarowitz, flack <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/melissa-nathan\/\" id=\"auto-tag_melissa-nathan\" data-tag=\"melissa-nathan\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Melissa Nathan<\/a>, her TAG company, and fellow publicist Jennifer Abel on the hook for some big bucks, the \u201cended\u201d in Freedman\u2019s words might be a tad premature. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tIn addition to the shuttered but still active countersuit, there\u2019s the separate but clearly connected legal action between the IEWU director\u2019s publicist Jennifer Abel and her former boss Stephane Jones of the Jonesworks PR firm still moving forward.
