Shaqwan Warren<\/a>, 33, had been held at the jail since his arrest on April 24. Houston County Jail records show he was being held for Centerville Police. Chief Cedric Duncan said he was arrested on a bench warrant. The family says Warren was in jail for a traffic ticket.<\/p>\nHouston County Sheriff Matt Moulton said in a statement that on Tuesday at 5:02 p.m., Warren was transported to the hospital in Perry for a medical emergency.<\/p>\n
Warren’s family told WMAZ by phone on Thursday morning that they are concerned about how he died.<\/p>\n
Kelly Carter, Warren’s brother-in-law, said Warren was dropped off at the hospital on Tuesday with bruises and brain swelling. The family also said Warren was in the early stages of kidney failure.<\/p>\n
Houston County Coroner James Williams says an autopsy is scheduled for Friday at the GBI\u2019s Medical Examiner\u2019s Office in Macon.<\/p>\n
Sara Lue, the GBI’s director of public and governmental affairs, confirms that the Houston County Sheriff’s Office asked the agency to investigate the in-custody death.<\/p>\n
