The Egyptian national U.S. officials say was living illegally in the U.S. was sentenced after throwing two Molotov cocktails at protesters and calling for Hamas to release Israeli hostages in Boulder in the summer of 2025. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\t\u201cThe court finds your choices were acts of terror and they victimized an entire community, and they made everyone in it feel unsafe,\u201d Boulder County District Judge Nancy Salomone told Soliman, according to <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/coloradosun.com\/2026\/05\/07\/man-pleads-guilty-in-deadly-firebombing-attack-in-colorado\/\">The Colorado Sun<\/a>. She gave the maximum penalty for each of the 101 charges he faced. He will have no opportunity for parole.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tSoliman, 46, pleaded guilty on Thursday to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/culture\/culture-news\/colorado-firebomb-attack-victim-karen-diamoned-dies-1235375777\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">killing 82-year-old Karen Diamond<\/a> in the attack and injuring dozens of others. <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/abc7.com\/post\/man-firebombed-demonstration-colorado-killing-1-is-sentenced-life-prison\/19059215\/\">The Associated Press<\/a> reported that Soliman looked down at his desk while the judge and others spoke. He did, however, apologize to victims of the attack and acknowledged Diamond\u2019s death. Her sons described it as a \u201cfate worse than death,\u201d saying she suffered \u201cindescribable pain\u201d for three weeks after the attack before she died. \u201cThere are no words that can express my sadness for her passing,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tSeparately, he pleaded not guilty to 12 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/culture\/culture-news\/colorado-attack-suspect-charged-federal-hate-crime-1235352772\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">federal hate crime charges<\/a>. His attorneys claim that prosecutors are seeking the death penalty, available at the federal level, for those charges. Investigators allege Soliman planned the attack for over a year and wanted \u201cto kill all Zionist people.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tProsecutors claim he hoped to kill 20 participants in the weekly protest at the city\u2019s Pearl Street Mall, an outdoor space, which was organized after Hamas\u2019 attacks on Israel on Oct. 7, 2023. He allegedly yelled \u201cFree Palestine\u201d when throwing the firebombs. State prosecutors have identified 29 victims, 13 of whom attended the attack and others being in the vicinity. Soliman was charged with animal cruelty, too, as a dog was injured in the attack.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\t\u201cIf I went back, I would not have done this as this is not according to the teaching of Islam,\u201d Soliman told the court. \u201cWhat I did came out of myself and only myself.\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2026\/05\/07\/us\/colorado-attack-soliman-life-sentence.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">The New York Times<\/a> reports that he also said he believed he deserved the death penalty for his actions. (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/colorado\/\" id=\"auto-tag_colorado\" data-tag=\"colorado\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Colorado<\/a> does not have the death penalty.)<\/p>\n<p>\t\tTrending Stories<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tSoliman\u2019s lawyers say his acts weren\u2019t driven by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/antisemitism\/\" id=\"auto-tag_antisemitism\" data-tag=\"antisemitism\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">antisemitism<\/a> but a hatred for Zionism. \u201cYes, I am against Israel, and I can\u2019t deny that,\u201d he said. \u201cAnd that\u2019s my right.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tSoliman moved to the United States from Kuwait with his wife and five children. He was living in a two-bedroom apartment in Colorado Springs, 97 miles from Boulder, at the time of the attack. His wife and children spent 10 months in immigration detention after the attack before their release in April.
