\u201cWe have an orchestra that we put together. We\u2019ve built a 33-foot Christmas tree out of live greens, out of steel. There\u2019s a stage in the center of it with actors that act out scenes from the traditional Christmas story.\u201d<\/p>\n

Others say the possibility is especially frustrating following the recent implementation of parking fees for non-city residents at Balboa Park.<\/p>\n
\u201cI don\u2019t like to hear that at all. That\u2019s one of the really cool things in San Diego to do. Especially that time of year, there\u2019s so many families together. It\u2019s a great thing to do as a family together, it\u2019s a very wholesome thing. Good for the community,\u201d one attendee said.<\/p>\n

At the same time, December Nights is also a large-scale event that requires significant City operational support to the tune of $1.5 million for public safety, park operations, contractors, and more. In a constrained budget year, those costs are part of the broader conversation the City and Council are evaluating. The City is exploring philanthropic and corporate partnerships to help support and sustain the event in 2026 and future years to come.
