Councilwoman Jan Dubauskas cruised to victory two years ago \u2013 as the only City Council representative winning enough votes in the primary to take office.<\/p>\n
Now, she faces a potential recall.<\/p>\n
\u201cJan poses a clear threat to Scottsdale\u2019s future and therefore must be recalled,\u201d the Dan Ishac-authored petition demands.<\/p>\n
The first-term councilwoman said the recall effort was launched \u201cby a failed, former Democratic council candidate, Dan Ishac.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s pretty obvious that this is a partisan ploy by a failed Democratic council candidate who was in the pocket of bars and developers and who wants to kick a reliable conservative vote off the Council,\u201d Dubauskas countered.<\/p>\n
She added she is \u201cproud of my record of effective leadership \u2013 from reducing residents\u2019 property taxes, eliminating DEI and reversing Scottsdale\u2019s Green New Deal to investing in road improvements, ending road diets, and investing in Old Town.\u201d<\/p>\n
Ishac called the response \u201cmore lies\u201d from Dubauskas.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cI have never been a registered Democratic,\u201d he added. \u201cI was a GOP state and precinct committeeman (LD 23) for several years and left the party given the fighting within it. I have been registered independent for four years.\u201d<\/p>\n
According to his recall petition:<\/p>\n
\u201cJan Dubauskas engaged in conduct unbecoming a Scottsdale City Council Member, the most egregious was colluding with Councilmembers Graham and Kwasman to file a bogus criminal complaint to remove the mayor.\u201d<\/p>\n
Ishac continued that the trio \u201c hired an unqualified city manager for their bidding to purge the long-time city staff with institutional knowledge and creating needless bureaucratic barriers for small businesses.\u201d<\/p>\n
He also insisted Dubauskas is guilty of \u201cdisregarding merchant concerns, resident voices and citizen petitions, voted to waste $30 million-plus of our property taxes for an unneeded Old Town parking garage that threatens the tourist appeal of Scottsdale\u2019s Historic District and disrespects our historic Old Adobe Mission.\u201d<\/p>\n
Not so, Dubauskas countered.<\/p>\n
\u201cScottsdale is an incredible city and from day one, I\u2019ve been a proud residents-first conservative,\u201d the councilwoman stated, via email.<\/p>\n
\u201cTo continue keeping residents first and protecting what makes Scottsdale unique, I encourage Scottsdale voters to decline to sign any recall petitions \u2026\u201d<\/p>\n
