{"id":782805,"date":"2026-05-08T21:34:22","date_gmt":"2026-05-08T21:34:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/782805\/"},"modified":"2026-05-08T21:34:22","modified_gmt":"2026-05-08T21:34:22","slug":"law-enforcement-to-ramp-up-security-for-world-cup-july-4-crowds-nbc10-philadelphia","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/782805\/","title":{"rendered":"Law enforcement to ramp up security for World Cup, July 4 crowds \u2013 NBC10 Philadelphia"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Philadelphia police and partners are planning major security for World Cup events and July 4, with drones, K-9 units and large deployments.<\/p>\n<p>Local, state and federal agencies are working together to prepare for the influx of visitors \u2014 and the increased risk of security threats that can come with large-scale events.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDepending on which game, the manpower will dictate how many troopers will be at each game,\u201d Pennsylvania State Police Major, Area IV Commander, Richard D\u2019Ambrosio said.<\/p>\n<p>Law enforcement leaders say the biggest challenge will likely come on the Fourth of July, when multiple events are expected to draw huge crowds across the city.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have the fan fest going on, so we\u2019ll have significant deployment in the park leading into the night where we have a celebration,\u201d Philadelphia Police Commissioner Kevin Bethel said. \u201cSo we will probably have one of the largest deployments we ever had on a single day absent the Super Bowl.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>That Super Bowl deployment included about 3,400 officers, and officials say they expect similar staffing levels this summer.<\/p>\n<p>Unlike past major events, such as the pope\u2019s visit \u2014 when security was concentrated within a fenced perimeter \u2014 officials say this summer\u2019s efforts will be more fluid, moving alongside crowds throughout the city.<\/p>\n<p>Police say they will use a range of tools to enhance safety. That includes additional K-9 units, with 15 bomb-sniffing dogs being brought in from federal agencies to assist with patrols.<\/p>\n<p>People using public transit, including the Broad Street Line to get to matches, may see those K-9 units in action.<\/p>\n<p>Authorities will also rely on drones to monitor large areas from above, similar to how they were used during the Broad Street Run.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m watching as I\u2019m getting the feed.
