{"id":782817,"date":"2026-05-08T21:40:15","date_gmt":"2026-05-08T21:40:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/782817\/"},"modified":"2026-05-08T21:40:15","modified_gmt":"2026-05-08T21:40:15","slug":"prime-healthcare-to-stay-with-blue-cross-and-blue-shield-of-illinois","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/782817\/","title":{"rendered":"Prime Healthcare to stay with Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Prime Healthcare, which owns nine Illinois hospitals, will remain in-network with the state\u2019s largest health insurer, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois for now, following<a href=\"https:\/\/www.chicagotribune.com\/2026\/03\/13\/prime-healthcare-blue-cross-blue-shield\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"> months of uncertainty <\/a>over whether the two companies would reach a contract agreement, the health system announced Thursday evening.<\/p>\n<p>Had they been unable to reach an agreement, Prime would have been out-of-network for people with Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois health insurance, which would have meant those patients would have had to find new doctors who took their insurance or, in some cases, pay more for care. The current agreement will now continue into next year.<\/p>\n<p>Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois <a href=\"https:\/\/www.chicagotribune.com\/2026\/03\/13\/prime-healthcare-blue-cross-blue-shield\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">sent letters to members<\/a> in March informing them that Prime would be out-of-network starting June 1.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur hospitals and medical group remain in network with BCBSIL and we appreciate the recognition of the important role they play in providing care for communities,\u201d Prime said in a statement. \u201cPatients will continue to have uninterrupted access and no impact to costs, as ensuring health equity and access are values we work to protect.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Prime said in a news release that Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois \u201cwill correct previously issued termination notices related to the June 1 date.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois said in a statement Friday that: \u201cPrime Healthcare previously notified us of plans to leave our networks on June 1, 2026. Those plans have changed, and we are pleased to let you know that Prime has confirmed that they will stay in network.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Health systems and insurers periodically renegotiate contracts that dictate how much insurers will pay health systems for medical services, in exchange for a health system being included in an insurer\u2019s network.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Prime <a href=\"https:\/\/www.chicagotribune.com\/2025\/03\/01\/ascension-completes-sale-of-9-illinois-hospitals-to-prime-healthcare-for-more-than-370-million\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">bought eight Illinois hospitals<\/a> from nonprofit Ascension in March 2025 for more than $370 million. Prime announced Friday that it had completed its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.chicagotribune.com\/2026\/04\/14\/olympia-fields-hospital-prime-healthcare\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">purchase of a ninth hospital, Franciscan Health Olympia Fields<\/a>, from Franciscan Alliance.
