Gunfire erupted on a Manhattan street on Thursday morning, leaving a man shot multiple times, police reported. Sources said the broad daylight shooting happened at the corner of East 7th Street and Avenue D in Alphabet City at about 9:45 a.m. on May 7.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Sources said the broad daylight shooting happened at the corner of East 7th Street and Avenue D in Alphabet City at about 9:45 a.m. on May 7.\u00a0\n<\/p>\n

Officers from the 9th Precinct<\/a> received multiple 911 calls that a person had been shot. When they arrived at the scene, they discovered the victim, a 38-year-old man, who had suffered multiple gunshot wounds to the chest and arm.<\/p>\n

EMS rushed the victim to Bellevue Hospital, where he is expected to survive.

Molly, a local resident who lives near where the shooting unfolded, says she was at home at the time and heard the gunshots.<\/p>\n

\u201cI just heard three gunshots. Everyone else said they heard five gunshots. But it sounded very loud and very different from what I\u2019m used to hearing. Anyway, I did look out the window, and I heard and saw nothing,\u201d Molly told amNewYork. \u201cThere were no sirens, no screaming, no chaos, nothing.\u201d<\/p>\n

Another nearby resident, who did not provide her name, she said she was walking nearby when the gunfire erupted.\n<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t know how many gunshots; I just ran inside. I was scared,\u201d the woman said. \u201cI saw the ambulance from my rooftop.\u201d\n<\/p>\n

Police descended on the scene, blocking off several blocks with crime scene tape. Several shell casings could be seen on the ground as officers investigated.

As of midday Thursday, police had not yet established a possible motive for the shooting or a description of the perpetrator. No arrests have been made in the ongoing investigation.<\/p>\n
