Dart ran the gamut of less-than-ideal circumstances in his rookie season. He sat behind Russell Wilson until Week 4, never played a full game with WR1 Malik Nabers, was in the concussion protocol on multiple occasions and had a substandard interior offensive line. Despite all that, he became just the seventh Round 1 rookie in the common draft era to log a passer rating of 90-plus and a TD-to-INT ratio of 2:1 or better. Two of the other six players to accomplish that feat — Dan Marino and Justin Herbert — topped 5,000 passing yards in Year 2, and Marino won the NFL MVP. Heading into 2026, Dart has gained the assistance of HC John Harbaugh and OC Matt Nagy, as well as TE Isaiah Likely and four new offensive linemen, including 10th overall pick Francis Mauigoa (plus, the returning Nabers). Dart has the tools to break out and could even lead the Giants from worst to first this season, which might make him a sneaky contender for the MVP award.

The Giants draft room leading up to the drafting of offensive tackle Francis Mauigoa

LB/edge Arvell Reese. The Giants have no shortage of talented pass rushers, and Reese should see snaps off the edge in some capacity. But he also projects as an immediate game-wrecker in the middle of New York’s defense. Reese has the draft’s best blend of speed and physicality, and he’s a rangy defender with quality hands and technique at the point of attack. No matter where the Giants play him, Reese will find ways to make plays.

On paper, the New York Giants’ run defense should be improved.

And yes, it’s clear games are won on the field, not with praise in the offseason. How important of a factor was this in the Giants’ quest to set a new tone under John Harbaugh?

New York Giants: 9. The potential is undeniable, and there is a huge delta between ceiling and floor for a team that is loaded with intriguing young talent on both sides of the ball and has brought in a Super Bowl-winning head coach.

Initial numbers for the Giants draft picks

26. New York Giants. The Giants have a few promising pieces, mainly Malik Nabers and Abdul Carter. They’re both young, play crucial positions and have impressed early in their careers. There are plenty of holes on this roster, however, and the future at quarterback is unclear after Jaxson Dart’s unspectacular rookie season. The Giants’ main problems are on defense, where their interior D-line ranks as the league’s worst, and their cornerbacks room is 30th.

The former Heisman Trophy winner, who still has a year remaining on his contract with Big Blue, will serve as FOX Sports’ FIFA World Cup correspondent this summer. This is Winston’s latest foray into media. He served as a digital correspondent during Super Bowl LIX in New Orleans and was a guest commentator on Netflix’s broadcast of MLB’s 2026 opening night game this past March.

Winston’s World Cup duties will not interfere with his commitment to the Giants.
