The deadly shooting on Julington Creek Road on April 22 happened hours after a double shooting resulting in a woman’s death on Jacksonville’s Westside.<\/p>\n

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. \u2014 The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office has released new information<\/a> regarding an officer-involved shooting in the Mandarin area.<\/p>\n

On April 22, JSO says that officers responded around 5:30 a.m. to the 8200 block of Susie Street<\/a>, a Westside residential area, after receiving reports of a shooting.<\/p>\n

When officers arrived, they found two adult victims outside suffering from gunshot wounds. Both were taken to a local hospital, where the woman was pronounced dead and the other victim remained in critical condition.<\/p>\n

Investigators later identified a person-of-interest in the case as 53-year-old Robert Phillips, a man who had an active warrant for his arrest on a theft charge.<\/p>\n

At around 1:20 p.m., JSO says that Phillips’ vehicle was found outside of a residence around the 5100 block of Julington Creek Road<\/a>. Phillips left the house hours later and entered the vehicle, after which JSO says that a “planned tactical vehicle block” was executed.<\/p>\n

While inside his vehicle at around approximately two hours later, JSO states that Phillips “armed himself with a handgun and fired two shots” at deputies before they returned fire. Phillips died on the scene.<\/p>\n

Had he survived the shooting, JSO says that Phillips would have been arrested for theft, attempted murder of a law enforcement officer, murder and attempted murder.<\/p>\n

According to JSO, Phillips had a criminal history consisting of domestic battery, battery, resisting a law enforcement officer, drug and drug paraphernalia possession, criminal mischief and solicitation of a prostitute.\u00a0<\/p>\n

JSO states that the State Attorney’s Office will review the incident to determine the legality of the shooting, while the sheriff’s office conducts an internal review.<\/p>\n
