That’s what position coach Tony Alford and the Wolverines are eyeing in the early going from Cartae Ligon.

A native of Chillicothe, an hour south of Columbus, Ligon is reciprocating the interest as he made a visit to Ann Arbor in late March. He walked away from the experience on a significantly high note.

“My visit to Michigan was good and the experience was amazing,” Ligon told Maize n Brew. “They set the new standard for how visits should be.”

Alford, whose connections in the Buckeye State persevere following years as an assistant with Ohio State, is leading the charge in building a connection with Ligon. Much like what other recruits have said about Alford, his character and teachings have had an impact on Ligon.

“Me and coach Alford’s relationship is very good and I think he is a very good coach,” Ligon said. “I can definitely see myself playing for him.”

Ligon also made sure to speak and learn from one of Michigan’s running backs on the roster who also hails from Ohio. When observing practice, Ligon was impressed with the latter’s showing.

“I loved practice and I think I would fit in perfectly,” Ligon said. “All the RBs were pretty good, but Jordan Marshall stood out the most. It also won’t be another year until he begins taking official visits, but Michigan has certainly put itself in a valuable position because of the trip two months ago.

Ligon said a second visit to campus could occur this summer.

“They are definitely my number one school after the visit,” Ligon said. “I want to see more in-depth of what I saw the first visit outside of spring practice (on future returns) and meet more of the staff.”

Could a potential running back commit in the 2028 recruiting class for Michigan come from Ohio?
