I always rode the bus to work in Richmond because we never owned more than one car.

Then I needed sidewalks and trees to remind me of the East Coast.

Berkeley Place had all three, so my first husband and I moved in. It was like finding a little slice of the East Coast deep in the heart of Fort Worth. I later got divorced, moved to the suburbs and came back because by that time I knew this was the best neighborhood in Fort Worth.

My neighborhood has older people, younger people, single people and more mingling in and around our home. They are so welcoming.

I think it’s because Berkeley has so many characteristics of your old-time neighborhood with things like sidewalks, a lot of traffic to the zoo and to Interstate 30. We’re a little bit more open to what I call the joy of urban living because people pass through and see our neighborhood.

We’re home to Lily B. Clayton Elementary, which I would probably deem the best school in Fort Worth. My three kids went there. Two live in Chicago and one lives in New York City. And they all did their schooling through Fort Worth ISD.

The coolest thing about this neighborhood is that I travel by plane probably an average of four to five times a year, and I have ridden the train to the airport every time. My house is just 11 minutes away from the T&P Station.

My home is perfect for my cycling hobby. As a cyclist, I am able to hop down on the Trinity Trails and go down right by the zoo or go over to the next neighborhood. It’s really nice for me so we can just pop out of our houses and we’re on the trail.

When I first came to Fort Worth, I thought I was just looking for a home away from home. What I found was more than that. This is my forever home.

Berkeley Place

Total population: 1,133
Female: 48.8% | Male: 51.2%

Age
0-9: 3.1%
10-19: 6%
20-29: 23%
30-39: 5.7%
40-49: 4.1%
50-59: 15.5%
60-69: 17.2%
70-79: 20.7%
80 and older: 4.8%

Education
No degree: 1.2%
High school: 1.3%
Some college: 24.7%
Bachelor’s degree: 47.2%
Post-graduate: 25.7%

Race
White: 92.3% | Hispanic: 6.2% | Two or more: 1.5%

Click on the link to view the schools’ Texas Education Agency ratings:

Source: Census Reporter

Georgi Roberts has lived in Berkeley Place in Fort Worth for about 38 years.
