John Cena is somehow still one of the biggest draws<\/a> on the WWE roster, even though he\u2019s retired. That\u2019s why the company has figured out any way to use him, and that will continue with his appearance at tonight\u2019s (Sat., May 9, 2026) Backlash premium live event in Tampa, Florida.<\/p>\n

He\u2019ll be making some kind of historic announcement<\/a>, one none of us have any real clue about (proof that here<\/a>) beyond obvious hints that it\u2019s something related to Club WWE<\/a>. The idea that TKO would be using Cena for another money grab has some fans a bit antsy, and rightfully so. There may be some hope, however.<\/p>\n

At least that\u2019s the WrestleVotes word going around backstage at Friday Night SmackDown this week:<\/p>\n

Ah, hope. As a certain Architect once said, \u201cit is the quintessential human delusion, simultaneously the source of your greatest strength, and your greatest weakness.\u201d I also can\u2019t help but read that and instantly change it in my own mind to \u201cthere\u2019s hope WWE isn\u2019t on their bullshit again,\u201d which feels like a wider statement on the state of the promotion itself right now.<\/p>\n
