The predominant symptoms were vomiting and diarrhea, and the agency cited norovirus as the cause.<\/p>\n<p id=\"anchor-18b6a5\" class=\"body-graf\">The CDC said the outbreak was reported Thursday during the ship\u2019s April 28 to May 11 voyage through the Caribbean. <\/p>\n<p id=\"anchor-758e37\" class=\"body-graf\">As of Saturday afternoon, the vessel was located north of the Dominican Republic en route to Nassau in the Bahamas, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cruisemapper.com\/ships\/Caribbean-Princess-558#google_vignette\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">CruiseMapper<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p id=\"anchor-9c9a6f\" class=\"body-graf\">Princess Cruises said \u201ca limited number of individuals reported mild gastrointestinal illness\u201d during the voyage from Port Everglades in Florida.<\/p>\n<p id=\"anchor-aa2e61\" class=\"body-graf\">\u201cWe quickly disinfected every area of the ship and added extra sanitizing throughout the voyage,\u201d the company said in a statement. \u201cUpon arrival to Port Canaveral on May 11, Caribbean Princess will undergo comprehensive cleaning and disinfection before departing for her next voyage.\u201d<\/p>\n<p id=\"anchor-f29010\" class=\"body-graf\">The cruise line said it implemented enhanced sanitation procedures, while the CDC said sick passengers and crewmembers were isolated and stool samples were collected for testing.<\/p>\n<p id=\"anchor-7d1779\" class=\"body-graf\">Van Milligen took notice of the stricter sanitation measures aboard.<\/p>\n<p id=\"anchor-3c2f14\" class=\"body-graf\">\u201cThe cruise line made all precautions to stop the spread,\u201d he said over email, adding that \u201cthey were very professional\u201d and passengers were informed about the situation in a timely way.<\/p>\n<p id=\"anchor-18786b\" class=\"body-graf\">Among the changes he noticed were passengers becoming more cautious about hygiene, including washing their hands more frequently. Passengers were also no longer allowed to serve themselves at the buffet, he said.<\/p>\n<p id=\"anchor-4a5223\" class=\"body-graf\">Another passenger onboard, Donna Leonte from Florida, said she boarded the vessel in Fort Lauderdale on April 28 with her husband and four friends to celebrate her 21st wedding anniversary.<\/p>\n<p id=\"anchor-c97bd3\" class=\"body-graf\">\u201cWe are doing well. Safety precautions are in place but nothing deadly,\u201d Leonte told NBC News on Saturday afternoon. <\/p>\n<p id=\"anchor-1217fa\" class=\"body-graf\">Said also noticed the enhanced sanitation efforts across the ship.<\/p>\n<p id=\"anchor-b82829\" class=\"body-graf\">\u201cWashing stations are manned so people do not pass them up and Purell sanitizers are everywhere,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p id=\"anchor-187786\" class=\"body-graf\">She said passengers have continued participating in onboard activities despite the outbreak.<\/p>\n<p id=\"anchor-0c6847\" class=\"body-graf\">\u201cPeople need to be mindful and take precautions. We are not missing any activities,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p id=\"anchor-ff3755\" class=\"body-graf\">Like van Milligen, Leonte said the buffet operations had changed.<\/p>\n<p id=\"anchor-00c341\" class=\"body-graf\">\u201cThe buffet is well-staffed and they are handing out dishes, utensils and food,\u201d she said. \u201cThey\u2019re doing an excellent job.\u201d <\/p>\n<p id=\"anchor-dcff0b\" class=\"body-graf\">Similar protocols were implemented in March after more than 150 people aboard <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/news\/us-news\/153-people-princess-cruise-ship-caribbean-infected-norovirus-rcna263523\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">another Princess Cruises <\/a>ship touring the Caribbean also became sick with norovirus.<\/p>\n<p id=\"anchor-a894b6\" class=\"endmark body-graf\">Norovirus is a highly contagious virus that commonly causes vomiting and diarrhea and can spread quickly in close quarters, including cruise ships, according to the CDC.
