As eight Rotarians and one traveling member made their way across the windy parking lot to the back room of Rudi\u2019s Grill, the sun strained to peep through the cloudy skies after the previous day\u2019s storms. While everyone settled around the narrow meeting table, some ordered food while chatter ebbed and flowed.<\/p>\n

When the time was right, Vice President Jane tapped the April 28 meeting open at 7 a.m., followed by Jay leading the Pledge of Allegiance, Sarah Edmiston leading the reciting of the Four-Way Test (five for the fun-loving members) and Mary giving the opening prayer. Rotations were made by Don, Jane, Gordon, Jay, Mary, Jane, Sarah\u00a0Edmiston and Sarah Robinson. Recognitions were postponed until the next meeting. Don handed around the treasurer’s report. It was discussed and accepted.<\/p>\n
With no program planned, members discussed upcoming events and club business. When topics were exhausted, Jane closed the meeting at 7:32 a.m. The next meeting is at 7 a.m.\u00a0May 5\u00a0in the back room of Rudi\u2019s Grill.<\/p>\n

President Kelly Pool called to order the May 1 meeting of\u00a0Jacksonville Rotary Club at noon at Hamilton\u2019s.<\/p>\n

The Pledge of Allegiance was recited and “America” was sung.<\/p>\n
Volunteers were thanked, including greeters and 50-50, Laurie Evans, Mike Schneider, Jan Ryan and Shawn McCombs; sergeants-at-arms,\u00a0Joan McQuillan and Ginny Fanning; Reflection, Kelly Pool; Recognitions and Rotations, Ryan\u00a0Byers; notes,\u00a0Anne Jackson (remotely); song leader, Dan\u00a0Lepper (by default); tech, Diane Suefert; food delivery, Jim\u00a0Hinchen; and Tobbe\u2019s transportation, Christy\u00a0Lepper.<\/p>\n
\u2022 The PolioPlus Jars are on the tables.<\/p>\n

\u2022\u00a0Joan\u00a0McQuillan announced that our literacy grant is funded by ticket sales to the ball game. Please get involved.<\/p>\n
\u2022 Joan also announced that South Jacksonville Elementary School teachers will be honored during American Education Week.<\/p>\n
\u2022 Pete: You will be missed.<\/p>\n
\u2022\u00a0Jan Ryan thanked the group for helping out with a very successful Scholar Athlete Banquet.<\/p>\n

\u2022\u00a0Jan and Dan\u00a0Lepper gave thanks to Craig Albers and Shawn McCombs for an excellent job of chairing the Scholar Athlete Committee.<\/p>\n
\u2022 Jan also encouraged members to \u201cstep up.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u2022\u00a0Noel is seeking volunteers to get\u00a0Tobbe to Rotary meetings and back and forth to St. Louis in June.<\/p>\n
\u2022\u00a0Lynne\u00a0Sheaff reminded the membership to pay their dues.<\/p>\n

\u2022 Lynn also reminded the group of the social on May 9 at Barney\u2019s to say goodbye to Pete and Nichole.<\/p>\n
\u2022 Jenna and Dan are looking for a volunteer to join the Ferris wheel committee and be in charge of volunteers.<\/p>\n
Tobbe was in the house. Dan Lepper was accompanied by his wife, Christy.<\/p>\n
Past member Dave Olson was in attendance.<\/p>\n

Ryan Byers was in charge of Recognitions and Rotations. Those sharing thoughts and money included Todd Evans, Pete Carteaux, Bill Blue, Keith Lape, Marybeth Lauderdale, Dave Olson, Alberta Robinson, Kelly Pool, Dan Lepper, Jan Ryan and Lynn Sheaff.<\/p>\n
Chuck Sheaff gave us an update on Jacksonville Promise. He emphasized this summer’s College for Kids program at\u00a0LLCC, for kids entering grades 1-8. Jacksonville Promise will be offering scholarships for those in need. Illinois College is planning College Camp, for which needy kids also can receive scholarships. He ended his presentation with a brief description of the anatomy and physiology of the platypus.<\/p>\n
Pete Carteaux drew unsuccessfully for the 50-50 pot of about $109.<\/p>\n
