UPDATE<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>SYRACUSE, N.Y. &#8212; Syracuse Police Chief Mark Rusin said a suspect was taken into custody on Saturday afternoon following &#8220;active threat situation&#8221; at Tyler Court.<\/p>\n<p>Chief Rusin said three officers were hurt in the hours-long standoff. Two officers were shot in the arm by the suspect. The third officer suffered a wound to their hand. Rusin said they are working to determined how the hand injury occurred.<\/p>\n<p>The officers were taken to Upstate University Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. Two of them were released by Saturday afternoon. One remains there.<\/p>\n<p>The suspect surrendered and was taken into custody without incident around 3:15 p.m. Rusin said the suspect&#8217;s name will be released later in the investigation. He described the resolution to the standoff as peaceful.<\/p>\n<p>The suspect was given medical attention at the scene. He will also be transported to the hospital.<\/p>\n<p>The Onondaga County District Attorney&#8217;s Office could explore attempted murder charges for the suspect for shooting at the officers, Rusin noted. He said that the suspect could also be charged with assault and criminal weapons possession.<\/p>\n<p>Rusin said the suspect would likely be arraigned on May 10. He added that there is no threat to the public anymore.<\/p>\n<p>Law enforcement partners from Buffalo and Albany traveled to Syracuse to aid at the scene. Rusin said the number of total responding officers is in the hundreds. Several neighbors were evacuated as the scene remained active.<\/p>\n<p>Officers were first called to Tyler Court around 6:30 a.m. on Saturday for a report of a man menacing people with a machete. Additional reports said the suspect attacked a dog with the weapon.<\/p>\n<p>The Onondaga County Sheriff&#8217;s Office, the New York State Police and federal agencies also responded to the scene.<\/p>\n<p>This is a developing story.<\/p>\n<p>&#8212;&#8211;<\/p>\n<p><strong>ORIGINAL STORY<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Multiple police officers have been shot in the city of Syracuse and are recovering in the hospital, according to Syracuse Police. <\/p>\n<p>It happened just after 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 9 according to the city&#8217;s police department. Additional Law Enforcement quickly made their way to the scene on Tyler Ct. in Syracuse. As of 12:30 p.m. the scene is still active. <\/p>\n<p>According to police, units were first called to Tyler Court around 6 a.m. this morning for reports of a man menacing others with a machete. More calls later came in that the man hurt a dog with a machete.<\/p>\n<p>Officers and detectives responded and a search warrant was issued. Upon serving that warrant the suspect opened fire on the officers, hitting two of them. Police Chief Mark Rusin says the officers fired back but the amount of gunfire is unknown.  <\/p>\n<p>The officers were taken to Upstate University Hospital where they are stable, according to the Chief. Mayor Sharon Owens says she visited them in the hospital, and they are in good spirits. <\/p>\n<p>According to Police Chief Mark Rusin a third officers was injured and is seeking medical care, although the extent of their injuries is unknown. <\/p>\n<p>Members of Syracuse Police department, Onondaga County Sheriff&#8217;s Office, State Troopers, and the FBI are at the scene.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Graphic by CNY Central\" class=\"ImageEmbed_image__qZBo_\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/15b38c67-23a3-40bc-9301-ae37b16873b4-tylercourtpolicescene.png\"\/><\/p>\n<p>The police department is asking the public to avoid the area, calling it a highly active scene. Another update from officials is expected around 2:00 p.m. <\/p>\n<p>The incident comes as several colleges and Universities, including Syracuse University, are holding graduation ceremonies.
