{"id":785215,"date":"2026-05-09T22:28:33","date_gmt":"2026-05-09T22:28:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/785215\/"},"modified":"2026-05-09T22:28:33","modified_gmt":"2026-05-09T22:28:33","slug":"feds-please-stop-new-yorks-unequal-protection-of-illegal-immigrant-criminals","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/785215\/","title":{"rendered":"Feds, please stop New York&#8217;s unequal protection of illegal-immigrant criminals"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>New York\u2019s criminal-justice system desperately needs the attention of US Assistant Attorney General Harmeet Dhillon \u2014 who\u2019s had enough of woke district attorneys protecting illegals from prosecution to shield them from deportation, and so put law-abiding citizens at risk<\/p>\n<p>Dhillon has begun with Soros-backed DA Steve Descano of Fairfax County, Va.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>She just announced <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/05\/07\/us-news\/doj-investigating-woke-soros-backed-virginia-da-over-sweetheart-deals-given-to-illegal-migrants\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">a probe of Descano policies<\/a> ordering prosecutors to \u201cconsider immigration consequences where possible,\u201d especially \u201cthe collateral immigration consequences of the specific crime(s) the defendant is charged with\u201d as they decide what charges to file, what plea bargains to take, and what sentences to recommend.<\/p>\n<p>That is: Go softer on an illegal immigrant than on a citizen who commits the same rape or assault, because the noncitizen is also at risk of deportation.<\/p>\n<p>The wokists see that as an \u201cunequal\u201d outcome: The illegal gets deportation on top of his other sentence.<\/p>\n<p>But it\u2019s added \u201cpunishment\u201d as the result of having committed an additional crime, namely border-hopping or another immigration offense such as overstaying a tourist visa.<\/p>\n<p>Such \u201clenience for illegals\u201d policies blatantly ignore the Constitution\u2019s guarantee of equal protection under the law.<\/p>\n<p>The leniency is also a clear violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act \u2014 which forbids agencies getting federal tax dollars from discriminating based on race, color, or national origin.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/01\/30\/opinion\/stop-letting-lefty-das-shield-illegal-immigrant-criminals-from-ice\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Descano already has blood on his hands<\/a>: His office dropped charges against illegal thug Marvin Morales\u2011Ortez and let him walk free \u2014 and within 24 hours he had murdered a man.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>But the madness is also rampant in New York too. A few recent examples:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Trans illegal <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/03\/25\/us-news\/outrage-as-trans-illegal-immigrant-gets-just-6-month-sentence-for-sexual-assault-of-nyc-teen\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Nicol Alexandra Contreras-Suarez<\/a>\u00a0 raped a 14-year-old boy in a bodega bathroom \u2014 and got six months from Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg, a fraction of the normal sentence for such a heinous crime.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2024\/05\/14\/us-news\/migrants-charged-in-attack-on-nypd-cops-in-times-square-offered-plea-deals\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Six migrant thugs<\/a> charged in a vicious Times Square cop attack got light-as-a-feather plea deals, including one who had been re-arrested after a days earlier bail-out.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Democrats in New York have long embraced this bias:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>In 2020, the state passed the \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/fortunesociety.org\/one-day-to-protect-ny\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">One Day To Protect New Yorkers<\/a>\u201d law, dropping the max penalty of class A misdemeanors to under a year so conviction for those crimes won\u2019t trigger deportations.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Mind you, none of this is about protecting anyone whose only crime is being here illegally: It\u2019s about protecting those who then commit more crimes \u2014 including violent ones.<\/p>\n<p>Which is crazy: An overwhelming majority of New Yorkers favor deporting violent-criminal illegal immigrants \u2014 it\u2019s a complete no-brainer.<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\tGet opinions and commentary from our columnists\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p class=\"inline-module__cta\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\tSubscribe to our daily Post Opinion newsletter!\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\tThanks for signing up!\n\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p>But our local political class somehow confuses protecting the guilty with protecting the innocent (and not just when it comes to immigration).<\/p>\n<p>New York desperately needs the feds to straighten the woke injustice-warriors out: Dhillon (and the rest of Main Justice) need to get investigating, ASAP.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Demand Bragg\u2019s emails around charging decisions.
