Geddes, N.Y. \u2014 Saturday finally felt a little like spring again in Central New York. Chevy Court at the New York State Fairgrounds looked more like a packed August afternoon at the State Fair than a chilly weekend in early May. Thousands of people poured into the sixth-annual Food Truck Battle<\/a>, chasing everything from chopped gyros and pork belly burnt ends to deep-fried Oreos and banana draft lattes. <\/p>\n

And after last year\u2019s event was cut short by storms, organizers were thrilled to see sunshine instead of dark clouds.<\/p>\n

\u201cPlease tell me you\u2019re taking pictures of the crowd today because we finally have some good weather,\u201d organizer Nick Sanford of Toss & Fire Pizza joked. \u201cI get so depressed when I see old pictures of cloudy skies and rain. Today is just great.\u201d <\/p>\n

More than 58 food trucks lined Chevy Court and the surrounding grounds, serving sample-sized dishes for hungry festivalgoers who bounced from truck to truck all afternoon. Families filled the KidZone, kids attacked jumpy houses and long lines formed at many of the most popular vendors. <\/p>\n

The panel of judges included a group of Syracuse firefighters, Alex DeRosa and Matt Read of the PBS show \u201cSpatchcock Funk,\u201d SavorCuse food enthusiast Julia Freeman, along with syracuse.com food writers Charlie Miller and Jacob Pucci.<\/p>\n

This year\u2019s sweet winner went to Blueberries & Lace for its banana draft latte, topped with \u201cVote for Us\u201d written directly into the frothy foam. The drink came paired with an oatmeal cookie described as an \u201cadult version of a Little Debbie cookie.\u201d <\/p>\n

Oh Crepe & Waffles took second place with its Boston cream \u201ccroffle.\u201d Baba Bowls on the Go took third with a \u201cTrio of the Tropics.\u201d<\/p>\n

On the savory side, Oompa Loompyas earned top honors for its dish called the mini puffy taco tag team, one of the more talked-about bites of the day. <\/p>\n

Redneck Reuben took second place for its $5 Reuben sandwich. Mamacitas placed third with its Seoul Street nachos.<\/p>\n

The Food Truck Battle has grown into one of Central New York\u2019s biggest spring traditions, unofficially kicking off festival season with two days of food, music and controlled culinary chaos.
