PHOENIX (AZFamily)<\/b> \u2014 The National Weather Service has extended the extreme heat warning through Tuesday. While we expect Monday to be the hottest day of this streak, Tuesday\u2019s heat matches the parameters for the warning.<\/p>\n
As expected, temperatures around Arizona popped up today as a ridge of high pressure built into the desert southwest from off the coast of California. That ridge will continue to strengthen over the next couple of days and center up over Northwest Arizona by Monday. That\u2019s the day we expect the hottest temperatures of the next seven days. <\/p>\n
We could even see some records falling around the state, mainly in the western and northern portions of Arizona. In the Valley, we\u2019ve still got 108 as the forecast for Monday. That\u2019s 2-degrees short of the record for that date.<\/p>\n
For Mother\u2019s Day, we\u2019ll start off the day in the 70s, and by around noon, we\u2019ll hit 100 and stay above that for the rest of the afternoon. Our forecast high for Sunday is 106 degrees. <\/p>\n
After the expected \u201chot\u201d day on Monday, temperatures will moderate the rest of next week. However, at this point, we see highs staying in the triple-digit range for the next 7 days. That\u2019s not totally crazy for this time of year.<\/p>\n
