{"id":785818,"date":"2026-05-10T04:56:24","date_gmt":"2026-05-10T04:56:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/785818\/"},"modified":"2026-05-10T04:56:24","modified_gmt":"2026-05-10T04:56:24","slug":"nyc-detectives-union-pushes-for-nypd-to-be-part-of-ice-buffer-zone-act","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/785818\/","title":{"rendered":"NYC detectives union pushes for NYPD to be part of ICE buffer zone act"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The city\u2019s detective union is escalating its war against rabid cop haters, pushing to have NYPD officers added to a federal law that requires protesters stay <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/05\/06\/us-news\/ice-agents-storm-disney-cruise-ship-docking-in-california\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">25 feet away from ICE officers<\/a>, The Post has learned.<\/p>\n<p>The Halo Act would fine or imprison protesters who get within the buffer zone and impinge on the law enforcement officers\u2019 ability to do their jobs, according to Detectives Endowment Association President Scott Munro, who said he\u2019s traveling to Washington, DC this week to meet with legislators.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat\u2019s exciting about this is if the federal government jumps in we don\u2019t have to wait around for local politicians and their far-left agendas,\u201d Munro told The Post.<\/p>\n<p>Detectives Endowment Association President Scott Munro wants state or federal lesiglation that keeps the public out of cops\u2019 faces. Helayne Seidman for the NY Post<\/p>\n<p>Right now, the act is written to specifically protect federal immigration enforcement officers from harassment that causes \u201csubstantial emotional distress\u201d and \u201cserves no legitimate purpose.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>Leftist agitators have been <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/02\/21\/us-news\/nyc-cops-harassed-doxxed-by-social-media-agitators-prompt-calls-for-change\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">harassing cops on the job<\/a>, filming the exchanges and then posting the videos to social media, where they also list the names of New York\u2019s Finest along with their complaint records. Some people have looked up the cops\u2019 addresses and made them public too, the union said.<\/p>\n<p>The DEA along with the National Association of Police Organizations and members of the New York State Public Safety Alliance, which is made up of hundreds of cops from around the state, are meeting with federal legislators to look for a way to protect cops from targeted harassment, the DEA said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEnough is enough,\u201d Munro said. \u201cWhat our detectives and the cops across this country are dealing with is not just unacceptable \u2014 it\u2019s dangerous. This is not about politics. It\u2019s about safety.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>People who don\u2019t obey the federal law could be hit with fines and\/or jail time.<\/p>\n<p>Law enforcement members from across the state are asking for a law protecting law enforcement members. Stitch The Camera Guy\/Facebook<\/p>\n<p>The law enforcement groups have also been trying to get legislation passed in New York.<\/p>\n<p>States that have enacted laws creating a buffer zone around police officers or first responders during active duty include Florida, Louisiana, Indiana and Arizona, the union said.
