{"id":787013,"date":"2026-05-10T17:47:17","date_gmt":"2026-05-10T17:47:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/787013\/"},"modified":"2026-05-10T17:47:17","modified_gmt":"2026-05-10T17:47:17","slug":"make-a-wish-surprises-san-antonio-first-grader-battling-leukemia-with-disney-trip","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/787013\/","title":{"rendered":"Make-A-Wish surprises San Antonio first grader battling leukemia with Disney trip"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Classmates cheered as Carrigan Caston learned her dream vacation is finally coming true.<\/p>\n<p>CIBOLO, Texas \u2014 There were tears, cheers and plenty of cupcakes inside a San Antonio elementary classroom Wednesday after a little girl battling leukemia received the surprise of a lifetime.<\/p>\n<p>First-grader Carrigan Caston was surrounded by classmates at Wiederstein Elementary School when representatives from Make-A-Wish Foundation revealed she\u2019ll be heading on a weeklong trip to Walt Disney World and other Orlando-area theme parks.<\/p>\n<p>For Carrigan\u2019s family, the moment felt almost impossible to believe.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s unbelievable \u2014 kind of hard to comprehend,\u201d her father, U.S. Army Maj. Brian Caston, said during the celebration. \u201cThis is a chance to celebrate, especially since she finishes her treatments in three months.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Carrigan spent much of kindergarten learning from home while undergoing treatment for leukemia before returning to campus this school year.<\/p>\n<p>Wednesday\u2019s celebration transformed her classroom into a party filled with balloons, treats and gift bags as classmates joined in the excitement.<\/p>\n<p>Ashley Garcia with Make-A-Wish said donations from supporters will cover every part of the family\u2019s upcoming trip, including travel expenses.<\/p>\n<p>One of the people especially touched by the moment was Jennifer Mills, Carrigan\u2019s former homebound teacher, who helped her continue learning during treatment.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere were good days and tough days,\u201d Mills said. \u201cI feel very fortunate to have been part of her journey.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Carrigan and her family are scheduled to leave for their wish trip May 17.<\/p>\n<p>                <img decoding=\"async\" class=\"photo__main\" loading=\"eager\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/ca35712b-ca50-414e-83e5-a67dac55da1d_1140x641.jpg\"  alt=\"\"\/><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Classmates cheered as Carrigan Caston learned her dream vacation is finally coming true.
