{"id":787038,"date":"2026-05-10T18:01:31","date_gmt":"2026-05-10T18:01:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/787038\/"},"modified":"2026-05-10T18:01:31","modified_gmt":"2026-05-10T18:01:31","slug":"woman-49-dies-in-e-bike-accident-after-hitting-curb-in-upper-manhattan","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/787038\/","title":{"rendered":"Woman, 49, dies in e-bike accident after hitting curb in upper Manhattan"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A 49-year-old woman died after she was riding an electric bike in Manhattan and struck a curb, cops said Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>Dayanara Deschamps Betances was zipping northbound on her e-bike, with a 75-year-old passenger seated behind her, in the right lane of Amsterdam Ave. at W. 181st St. in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nydailynews.com\/2026\/04\/16\/decomposed-body-found-in-alleyway-in-manhattan\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Washington Heights<\/a> on May 2 around 3:19 a.m., when she struck a curb.<\/p>\n<p>Both Betances and the man were ejected from the bike and hit the sidewalk.<\/p>\n<p>EMS transported Betances to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cuimc.columbia.edu\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Columbia University Irving Medical Center<\/a> where she died.<\/p>\n<p>The older man didn\u2019t sustain any injuries from the accident.<\/p>\n<p>Betances lived in Washington Heights, cops said.
