(Facebook)<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">An April 2022 photo appears to show him creating a banner for a youth camp, which saw 70 young adults and children from across the state staying at the organisation&#8217;s monastery in Mount Wallace across three days.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">The ABC contacted Saw Wah for comment, but he declined to be interviewed and did not respond to written questions.<\/p>\n<p>Past assault had &#8216;significant&#8217; impact<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">Saw Wah was convicted and imprisoned for sexually assaulting a young girl during a dance practice at his home in 2009, while he was the head of the Australian Karen Dance Association.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">He was initially convicted of the assault in 2013, which he successfully appealed, before he was re-convicted in 2015 and received a sentence of four years and eight months in prison.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Saw Wah police\" class=\"Image_image__5tFYM ContentImage_image__DQ_cq\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/3c0ac03a0dc72fc649464a1fa362e48d.jpeg\" loading=\"lazy\" data-component=\"Image\" data-lazy=\"true\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"Typography_base__sj2RP FigureCaption_text__zDxQ5 Typography_sizeMobile12__w_FPC Typography_lineHeightMobile20___U7Vr Typography_regular__WeIG6 Typography_colourInherit__dfnUx\" data-component=\"Typography\">The CCYP found the organisation was &#8220;likely exempt&#8221; from needing to comply with child safety standards. (YouTube)<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">Another member speaking anonymously fearing backlash from the community said their children frequently attended MKBA events and that they were &#8220;horrified&#8221; to learn of the president&#8217;s past conviction.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">They said the concern was shared among many members of the organisation, but a &#8220;culture of fear&#8221; about being ostracised by the community was keeping people silent.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">&#8220;It&#8217;s not easy to speak out about these feelings. People refuse to say anything \u2026 because they don&#8217;t want to talk about it,&#8221; they said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">They said they would like to see the president stood down.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">&#8220;I don&#8217;t think he should be around our community,&#8221; they said.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"EmphasisedText_quote__TE6kn\"><p>&#8220;I feel uncomfortable.
